Hi Folks,
Till now I had been a pretty satisfied Indica Turbo owner, having rakd up approx 5000 kms in 4 months. The car consistently gave me 17 KPL in the city with AC and 20 on the h/w.
But my honeymoon with the turbo tourned sour this weekend. I had gone from TVM to Ernakulam for some w...Read more

Hi Kedar
That was a nice review of the Xeta.
Just a couple of points though:
u mentioned that the FE is 11-12 in the city. i think taht is quite good considering even a santro gives the same with AC.
Also pl remember that tata claims 14 under standard test conditions.
your comment abo...ut the driving position is spot on. the problem is the steering wheel. It is too large and is set too high.
you could change the wheel to a smalle aftermerket wheel from Momo. it may help out.

Hi
That was one hell of a revu.
I am very keen on hte Victa but was a bit apprehensive considering the bad press the Sumo has been getting over the years, and TATA motors general apathy towards its customers (real or percieved?)
Keep writing in with your experiences esp. regarding reliabil...ity and the after sales exxp.
I personally think that in dark colors with a snazzy set of alloys, the Victa is actually a better looker than the Scorpio.

Hi Dude,
Ditto for me on ur comments. I have also recently bought an esteem (Lxi) in Jul 05, upon relocating from Delhi to Bangalore. I used to drive an Ikon and an Accent in Delhi, but for peace of mind, decided to go for a maruti product in Bangalore, since it is a new city for me and I didnt w...ant any hassles in car ownership. Needless to say it has been a good decision. The esteem absolutely rocks and apart from its low ground clearance, I cant think of anything negative about this car. we are a family of 2 1/4 (me, wife and a new born baby girl, hence the 1/4 :) )so interior space is not a problem for me.
But the engine of this car is a real jewel and on a recent trip to nandi hills, the car averaged 18kpl, w/o AC and speeds between 80-90 kph.
A great buy and definitely better than the Ikon or accent-and I can say this from personal experience.
Cheers and Happy Driving

THis is a good revu. What we have to realise is that ever since the cold war era, britain has been a lap dog of teh US and has no identity of its own. Its economy is screwed, it has nothing world class to boast of and is hanging on to its once (admittedly) gloroius past. Hence the only way in which ...it can make itself relevant in todays world is to tag onto the US bandwagon. While I would be the last person to justify the attacks on London, one does get the feeling that the attacks served the arrogant brits right. the Brits and teh Americans shud realise that the world today is a vastly different place than 25 years ago and while islamic fundamentalism is the bane of modern society, it still does not give the West the right ot poke their nose into everybody's affairs. Now wiht the US making scary noises over Iran and North Korea as well, one shudders to think what will happen next. why cant UK and US learn from other European cOUntries like France and Germany, who believe in fighting this menace through the UN platform and not like Rambos. UK and US shud remember that those who live by the sword are condemned to die by it.
Cheers

Saumil,
WHat kind of a review is this. This is totally crap. U gave absolutely inaccurate data. The esteem has an 85 bhp engine and not 65bhp. That was the power output of the earlier carb engine. Plus, the models in teh market today are LX, LXI and VXi. The AX is no longer on sale.
AS regards... teh data specs, that is a simplle cut and paste job fromt he maruti website. So pls be original and write with ur experiences on the car and not crap like this

Hi,
Very good Review. Touched a chord. You are absolutely right when you talk of car makers taking us for a ride. In fact, over teh last couple of years, the market has seen a major price correction, esp in the C segment. But this is not because the car makers, esp teh 'Foreign' ones, had a chang...e of heart, but when an Indian company literally caught them by the short and curlies and launched a reasonably good sedan at a killer price point. Yes I am talking about the Tata Indigo. So I guess there is some merit in the 'Be Indian, buy Indian' phrase after all.

Hi Tarun,
Think twice before buying an Indigo. I own a petrol Indica and although the car has been relatively trouble free, it feels quite coarse and agricultural to drive. ALso, if you are above 5ft10inches, pls take a long test drive before buying the indigo since the indica and indigo have ver...y limited front seat travel which makes them very uncomfortable on a long drive. Your feet are at an akward angle at all times.
ANother thing is the tata dealerships. since they sell so few petrol cars, their mechanics are not very competent to service petrol cars. My advice to you is that if you do not need the boot space, go in for the Getz. If you need the boot space, buy an Ikon flair. Far superior cars

Good revu dude. keep writing. its revus such as this that make MS rock. Just one point though. U have overlooked one of teh most crucial aspects of a diesel engine. TORQUE. In real terms, i.e. every day driving, it is torque that is required more than BHP, which is the peak power of the engine, typi...cally at high RPM. I mean, how many of us max out our engines on a regular basis. whereas, for overtaking, city driving and low speed response, it is torque that is required, and this is one area where mordern DI diesels with turbocharging, really score over their petrol counterparts.

Hi Nandu,
The swift has the engine of teh esteem but the only difference is that the ECM is revised as well as the gear ratios are revised for better lower end grunt. but yes, in order to keep prices low, Suzuki has shortchanged us and not provided the VVTi engine that the swift gets overseas. Th...e pick up of teh Indian swift is poor under 2500 rpm, but after that it really flies. Plus the top speed is pretty pathetic by modern standards. The brochure claims it to be 160. Guess this isdown to the gearing.
So take a long test drive before buying one. But keep in mind that even as it is, the Swift is far better value for money than anything in the market, the Indigo included.
CHeers and happy driving.
BTW, great revu, keep writing.Read More

Hi Arnab,
I am quite certain that the Swift u say was discontinued in hte US could not have been this model. U see, this model has been developed by Suzuki from 2000 onwards and has been launched worldwide in 2004-05. So this is a spanking new model dude. Enjoy the good times.
