Havn't heard of this film or read about this in the papers. But after reading your captivating review I just want to see this film. Any idea if this is available as VCDs in the market? Your review was great, keep writing. Rgds, Paromita

A very good collection of movies. I see most of my favorite ones. Would have loved to see Mirch Masal and Masoom (Shekhar Kapoor) in that list ... but understandably the list was for ten. :) Just to point out I think Do bheega zameen was a Bimal Roy film and not V Shanta Ram. Keep such good r...eviews coming. Regards, ParomitaRead More

Let me add two more to that list. 9) Rwitwik Ghatak: Made films mistly in Bengali but all his creations are classics of all times. Films: Mehge dhaka tara, Komal gandhar, Ajantrik, Nagarik... and many more.. are great classics. 10) Bimal Roy: Films - Do bhiga zameen, Bandini, Sujata, Madhu...mati... and others. Bold review. Sorry this missed the occassion and got late in the list. Business mantra has to be there... :) after all Ash would sell more than Smita Patil on a cover page. But reality is we pay to read the inner pages. Its true MS is addictive. You can find mixed views and thoughts on almost ...anything from Aeroplane to hairpin. Repeat a very well balanced review. After a long time I see a very thoughtful and serious review. Very well written, you are right, optimism and positive outlook is the success to life. As every dark cloud has a silver lining. And the glass looks better when it is half filled than when it is half empty... :) You have taken up some ...of the very important and delicate issues that each one of us either encounter directly or indirectly and your views and thoughts on each of the points raised are very rational and thoughtful. Although your list missed some essentially important issues such as poverty and illiteracy but understandably this place is too small for a huge country like India. Overall your portray of an Indian has been very beautiful. You are right, an Indian portrays intelligence, patience, tollerance, beauty, perfection.. overall a magnitudal character. Nowhere in the world you will have such a diverse community residing as a single entity. You force me to write a verse from a Bengali poem/song... :) Dhana Dhanye pushpe bhora, amader ei basundhara, Tahar majhe aachhe se ek sakal desher shera, Se je swapno diye tairi se je smriti diye ghera, Emon deshti kothao khuje pabe nako tumi, sakal desher Rani se je amar Janmabhumi... Keep such wonderful writeups coming more frequently. Ages back I had tried to pen down my feelings on the same topic. If time permits do check it out. Regards, Paromita Read More

A very interesting screen name.. :) You have placed some interesting thoughts on your review. But my thoughts don't match yours. May be as Pride and Prejudice is not one of your favorites, you could not relate to the characters and the storytelling. After seeing this movie, I had not felt this i...s the greatest movie of modern times but this was a very good adaptation of the novel written by Jane Austen. The novel was written ages back and creation of the same characters with respect to modern times was interesting. The storyline followed the original in modern surroundings. So Mr. darcy being a rich Indian and wooing Lizzy (Ash) wouldn't have been so convincing as Darcy from LA. Whatever, it was nice to read your view point on the movie. Keep more such reviews coming. May be I will watch it to know for sure what made you put down such a title for your review... This is the first of your reviews I read, increased my interest to read the others.. w...ill take time to check in some more reviews written by you. Bye and keep writing. What's next Yahaan? Very nicely written review. Haven't seen the movie yet, do plan to see it. I have read the original piece by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, I was a bit reluctant in watching this movie as I was quite shocked after watching Bhansali's Devdas. :( But after reading your review I take your verdict, will s...urely watch this one. Great to see you back in quick intervals. Keep writing. Regards, ParomitaRead More

Nice review... This is one of my favorite films too. I too agree with Dr. Shafique, directors of Bimal Roy's calibre and taste are not found at present. At times its not the calibre but also the taste of the person, to select a topic for a film. I was wondering if the same topic is re-filmed toda...y, will it get the same acceptance from the mass and will the present day actors bring out the same pathos and the simplicity. Do watch Bandini... and keep writing such wonderful reviews. Bye ParomitaRead More
