Friendship And Marriage
Jun 21, 2012 10:01 AM
Bestest friend I had a friend whom I met at work. You could have called her my soulmate. Great understanding and great bonding. It was a circle of friends but she was special, the best friend.
Knowing that a friend is to be cherished for life, I proposed and she accepted and now my best friend i...s right at home with me - as my wife. As we had a common circle, all my other friends (male and female) are still in our circle and (touch wood) no frictions. Guess that's luck.
But, an educated person should understand better and instead of creating frictions in married life, go and befriend the better half's friends. That would solve most of the problems.
Have a great day.Read More

Congrats for the ROTD. This is always a sad situation. Hyderabadi Biryani in Delhi has nothing Hyderabadi about it; Amritsari fish tikka is a sad fish from the Yamuna; Bong dishes are mixed with Paneer! and heaven forbid, I even saw an omlette dosa being advertised.

Way to go Meghna. You may yet become a great success. Guys who plan all the time sometimes get entangled in the small details and loose the big picture. By the way, were you in the CGW team :). Everything happened at the last moment and went quite well too. Bye and keep smiling.

Good Post Nice observations. One thing you forgot to mention - in between all these observations, did you get to complete your daily assignment of workout :)

good, nice, 'clean' review. How much does the higher model cost? How much electricity does it use?

Child Labour
Aug 12, 2010 10:38 AM
Continued..... Then there are others biggies like CRY, PCVC-Mumbai, AVANI-Sangli, Prayas-New Delhi, CHETNA-Ahmedabad, Bachapan Bachao Andolan-New Delhi, CREDA-Mirzapur, Auronodaya-Chennai, Bal Sahyog-New Delhi, etc. etc. These are just some of the plethora of organizations/NGOs working for the eradi...cation of child labour in India. Yet, every village, every town, every city, every metropolis, millions of hotels, organizations, households and even some Commonwealth Games’ worksites have child labour toiling away. There is no common ground for these organizations to meet and rather than coordination/cooperation, there is fierce competition amongst the various players to corner the biggest slice of cake (funds) provided by Govt. of India, ILO, WHO, UNICEF, IPEC, etc. etc.
I think the bookseller is doing the best for his kid – giving him an education as well as teaching him a trade, which may help him in the future. Even if he takes over his father’s stall one day, I think he will do better with his education. Here I find the stand taken by CWC (Karnataka) to be more appropriate to the prevailing situation in India.
You know, when Suhas Gopinath became the youngest CEO at 14 years of age, nobody cried ‘Stop - Child Labour’ but everybody rushed to praise him.
Coming back to the kid, I gave him what little I could at the moment and promised to help him out. You know what he asked for – can you get me back the job in the teashop? I am wondering - Will the NGOs crucify me if I try to help him out?Read More

Mehendi cone - a 5 year old’s weapon?
Aug 05, 2010 11:34 AM
Congrats for FP Can sympathise with you. I too hate mehandi but not for the same reason as yours. My 7 yr old son hates mehandi and does not let his mother (my best half) cook when she has mehandi in her hair or hands. So the cooking is done by me on that day - the problem is, I have to eat it too.

'Un'Common 'Wealth Games'
Aug 05, 2010 10:24 AM
Spineless Netas Hi Deepak, Your angst is shared by all us 'common wealth giving' tax payers. As Mr. AIyer said yesterday, there should be a high-level independent body to look into these misappropriations (not headed by a politician or bureaucrat - for God's/ our sake).
BTW, as PM Mr. Vajpayee... got his knees replaced. Is there an operation where spines can be replaced - preferably with iron/steel ones? We should get the current lot to undergo this surgery.Read More

Well, you can always use the 2 GB memory card to store the SMS. That would hold a lot of them.
