I love the way you write. I'm not so much of a music buff myself and I haven't seen Lakshya (yes I know - I should just curl up and die) but I've heard some of the songs and loved them. Totally agree with your ratings and amm now inspried to buy the album myself tomorrow! I wonder if I could use som...e of your tactics on one of my friends.... :)
Keep writing!

Nice review Ankita. Very funny! First one of yours that I'm reading and I'm gonna be back!
I quite liked Tusshar's acting in Khakee but then that was a fluke so please do cart him off! I think AB just needs a good script to prove himself. He's a good actor but his taste in scripts...well...

I have a date to see this next weekend. Looks like it'll finally be something my friend and I both like - usually we have to take turns, which is why I can claim to have seen Bad Boys II. :)
Neat review Nelson. But then yours always are.

I agree with you about making friends online - sometimes it's much easier to open up with people you've never met. I wish you'd given a few more details about the site though - it seemed like a very abrupt review. Then again it might be because I'm such a chatterbox myself!
Keep writing.

You know Sai, I've been giving the different interpretations of Tere Bina zindagi se koi some thought - and I think we're both right and we're both wrong.
In the movie...I think both interpretations of work equally well. On the one hand, he's the one thing that's holding her back from her dream...s and aspirations. So he becomes the one 'shikwa' in her life. On the other, she *has* left him behind and built her own life - and it's a good life; it's what she wants - 'Tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa to nahin' - and yet without him it's incomplete - 'Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin, zindagi toh nahin'. Both interpretations work I think and that's where the beauty of it lies. It's like that song - 'Main nehi makhan khayo'. Whichever way you look at it, it makes sense. But less gimmicky - just two different layers of meaning blending seamlessly into each other - Gulzar the genius. :)

You’re the One that I Want by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John
I got chills, they're multiplyin', and I'm losin' control
Cause the power you're supplyin', it's electrifyin'
…
I better shape up,
cause you need a man
I need a man,
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shap...e up, if I'm gonna prove
You better prove, that my fate is justified
Are you sure?
Yes I'm sure down deep inside
You're the one that I want
(you are the one I want), ooh ooh ooh, honey
‘What’s happening…stud!’. Olivia Newton John became every red-blooded male’s fantasy with those words and even today the sight of her in those skin tight pants sends many pulses accelerating! This is one of my favourite songs in the movie because it’s such a happy song (and also I love the choreography). Things have worked out for the totally mismatched Danny and Sandy because they’ve both figured each other out…and they are both willing to do what it takes to keep the other one in their lives. If that means changing themselves – well they’ve thought about that and they are ‘sure down deep inside’ that they’ll do anything to hold on to the ‘one that they want’.
I’ll be the first to accept that the movie simplifies every issue it tackles. But if you look hard enough, the songs are where the real story is and it’s the songs make the movie into the cult classic it is.

We Go Together by the entire cast
We go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong
Remembered forever as shoo-bop sha whada whadda yippidy boom da boom
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop that's the way it should be
Waooo Yeah
Yes those really are the lyrics! This is the last song... in the movie and it’s a nice feel-good song with infectious music.

There are worse things I could do by Stockard Channing
There are worse things I could do
I could flirt with all the guys,
Smile at them and bat my eyes.
Press against them when we dance,
make them think they stand a chance
and then refuse to see it through,
that's the thing I'd never do.
...
…
I don't steal and I don't lie, but I can feel and I cry
In fact I'll bet you never knew, but to cry in front of you,
that's the worse thing I could do.
If you’ve read my review of the movie, you know that this song made a big impression on me. I think Stockard Channing’s voice is amazing – powerful and strong and she does a fantastic job in this song – both the singing and the acting. In the Indian context, this song makes a lot of sense still – especially considering all the debates that have been raging on the open sexuality in remix videos these days. In our culture, most girls will still go only so far and no further – because we are ‘good Indian girls’. It’s the way we’ve been brought up; it’s an ethical framework we’ve been conditioned to accept. And yet sometimes one wonders about the logic…is being ‘good’, the worst thing we could do? Everyone has to find their own answers to that one.

The history of my fascination with Grease has been documented in great detail in my review of the film (http://www.mouthshut.com/readreview/59172-1.html). This review is purely of the soundtrack and I?m going to jump straight into it.

I wonder why I always thought 'Sade' was an alias with some kind of link to the Marquis de Sade. I'm glad there isn't actually - her music and her voice are just too gorgeous to have any unfortunate associations.
Very informative and helpful review...especially your points about acoustics. I don...'t know much about music so they were very enlightening.

Wow...this sounds like a really cool toy - and useful too, which is unusual for most 'boy's toys'! ;)
I really like the way you have structured the review - I mean a gadget isn't the easiest thing to be creative about but you've got your point across with such ease. I am going to plagiarise your ...format when I write on my own (much humbler!) cellphone!
Oh...and thank you on behalf of all members of my profession for this sentence 'The operating manual is self explanatory'. It's nice to be noticed/ appreciated. :D

'Now,I Know why she is still unmarried, because every man is afraid that she might not do the same thing to them.'
That line just made my day!! :))
Hilarious review and so true. It's really sad that people watch these serials but I guess they are popular for the same reason that romance novels ...are - entertainment without any brains or thinking required.
I wish there were some decent Hindi serials on air but I can't think of any - even those that try to be different - like Jassi- fall into the same mould after a while.
Great review!

Seems like an incredible book. I read 'A Fine Balance' on your recommendation and thought it was incredible - will definitely read this one too if I can get hold of it.
Have you read 'Sophie's Choice'? Would love to hear your views on that. Perhaps in chat sometime? :)
