Improving your BOTTOM END! Tips on maintaining a Sound System
Well to be honest the best option is to generally go for the same type of speakers if it is home threatre setup. This will ensure the sensitivities and SPL of speakers to be very well matched. If one goes into details than the other aspects of the speakers are also important like timbre and tonal qu...ality. As for the brands available in your area I am very much familiar with Mission, Wharfdale and JBL but not Profx. JBL lately have come up with a lot of crap and are no longer in my good books when considering budget equipment. Mission is a better brand compared to Wharfdale. I use to own Wharfdales long time ago, say 20 years or so and at that time Wharfdales were very good, lately Mission have come out with better value for money speakers and they also sound pretty good. Any subwoofer with less than 10 inch driver is not to be taken seriously, smaller drivers say 8 inch and under just cannot do justice to lower octaves. Stick to 10 inch drivers in case of Subwoofers. Buying two 8 inch woofers is not as good a proposition as buying one 10 inch model. MP3's are not HIFI! Happy listeningRead More
Its very difficult to say which sub $500 subwoofer I would recommend since I have no idea what you can get in your area, if you can give me a rundown of subs available I can maybe give some advise. As for low end, the main culprit is the Philips 727K that you use in your system, it has a very loo...se low end which can even overwhelm the REL. My friend's system was upgraded by me and I suggested to him to get a solid CD player for music, I finally got him a NAD 542 and also the REL Strata III, the music making capabilies of his system just transformed with the two in place. The reason I am saying 727K is the culprit is because I have heard it in his system and therefore I do not hesitate to say so. You may read my review of the 963SA player entitled '3 in 1 treat' and you will understand why I am saying so because I have evaluated a similar DVD player, namely 761K in that review.Read More

The Dictionary with a difference! Readers Digest Illustrated Reverse Dictionary
...is being subscribed in our household since 60’s, first it was in the name of my father, later it was me and now we get it in my son’s name. Infact, I just picked up the latest edition from the lobby downstairs 10 minutes ago. :) We also order various books from RD Online from Time ...to time as well as reference material like Atlas and Dictionaries. I have come to trust this site for my needs of Books and reference materials more than any other source. The review was an eye opener for me since I did not come across this particular Dictionary. I will check and order it as it really sounds useful, and what more can I say, I need not check any other source for its usefulness since your review is convincing enough for me to go ahead and spend part of my salary. Need I say more? :) AnisRead More

Comments... or lifelines Commenting on Reviews
Your entire review was spot on but my personal favourite part of your review was the last portion where you start of saying 'On a more serious note' that bit I particularly like very much. It's very well put and in my opinion the most important part of you well penned reveiw. I thought I'd drop b...y in the comments section and express my views since after reading your reveiw I could not resist it. AnisRead More

Cursed Fairies..... Five Most Beautiful Indian Actresses
......and the sense of respect you accorded to these faires is comendable. By the way, I have LP's from sixties like Ram aur Shyam, Mere Mehboob etc and Waheeda Rehman was always spelled with a 'W' never with a 'V', I thought I'd just mention that for record. Great review once again. Anis
Does your review add any value to MS database? Mouthshut
I cannot agree more with you on that. Anis
Thank you for your very thought provoking comment. I agree it was unlike my usual reveiws. I may have got carried away there :) Life is surely too short and I may not even be here. I will keep that in mind. Thank you again. Anis
Thank you for your frank comments. Allow me to respond to the two points you raised. I think you have read all the comments but may have missed out on a few which deals with the very point in detail. The reason I am able to say is that from the time you rated the reveiw to the time your finally c...ommented on it had a long pause in between, I know this beacue I was online while you were at it and my email is refreshed automatically each time a mail comes in. Anyway all I can say that the truth surely hurts, if speaking truthfully is a crime on MS than there is no point in writing on MS. It was neither yourlself nor Afrank nor Kerti 007 to who this review is ecelusively addressed to but it is in general, adreesed to all members. Despite the fact I respect your opinion. The second point also has been discussed in the comments section at length which again you missed out on unfortunately. No offence taken though. I believe the shifting of the review is in progress. Thank you for taking time out to express yourself, appreciate it very much. AnisRead More

My best strummable numbers Five Best Strummable Numbers
....with a great intro. I was totally engrossed in it. You also made an interesting observation when you said 'Everything I do' and 'Papa kehtey hain' have the same chord stucture. I like that. The Corrs were mentioned in the comments and yes I agree that their songs sound better on violins due t...o the reason that they are Irish and also the possibility of their songs mainly being composed by Sharon on the violins. Their music, I find to be very melodious indeed. My favorite being 'Forgiven, but not Forgotten', nice melody backed up by good rythm section headed by Caroline. I enjoyed every bit of your reveiw and while reading it I thought music is playing in the background even thought it was only the faint whispering of the air-conditioner's fan.! AnisRead More

The necessity of carrying information in pocket! Tips on choosing a PDA
I was so pleased to read your review. This is an ideal way of introducing a product to a first time buyer. You covered almost everything pretty well. I always read reviews and get ideas of what my next review will be about. My next review is not going to be on PDA but something interesting for su...re, I hope I will be able to do justice to that. Keep Smiling, Keep Shining Mouthshut
I dont know how many people will realise where your picked the title of this review from. I may be wrong but I will nonetheless go ahead and blurt it out here. The song title is 'That's what friends are for' and this is how it goes Keep smilin' keep shinin' Knowing you can always count on me ...for sure That's what friends are for For good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for Anis PS: Thank you for always treating me as a friend!Read More
We are so to say sailing in the same boat as I also don't know many, many, things and trying to learn everyday. On any given day if I have not had the opportunity to learn something new I feel I have wasted my day. As for writing reveiws, don't write because you are compelled to for any reason, w...rite when you feel like, that is when things will start to flow. Your mind will be at ease, no pressure from anywhere, above all you will be able to add value to your reviews. If you continue to do that you will become a Star Writer eventually and will realise you did not even have to work hard for it. As for copyright thing, need not worry about it MS should take care of it for you. :) Anis Read More
You are the only one who said I sounded a lil irate with a few people! You know something? You have the uncanny ability to read between the lines. You are absolutely correct in your assumption I was fuming as far as few members were concerned. Some are very good friends and some I do not know. ... Let me tell you something, you can be mad at people but it entirely depends on your intentions, I was mad at them for their own benefit and you can see that I really ment that when I wrote the reveiw in couple of hours on Sunday afternoon. The title of the review was the only thing in my mind the the rest followed, but, all the time I was concoius of the fact that I MUST ADD VALUE to my review and that is what I have tried to do. Hoping that is what it sound like to the reader. Thank you for the eye opener! ;) AnisRead More

My day job is to run a chemical plant (metal based liquid catalyst), married with 2 children (14 yea...r old boy who is a juvenile diabetic/cricketer and an 11 year old girl who plays flute in school band), wife is a medical practitioner. Like to spend free time virtually dancing with the waves emitted from my transducers, use light to paint on celluloid, use computer as a communicating tool and for self-improvement, be it a hobby or as a source of knowledge and information of interest. In a nutshell I am an audiophile, serious amateur photographer and a computer freak. I picked up the passion for photography from my mom who took most of my pictures when I was in pampers. I have been doing serious photography (on and off, due to time constraints) since last 15-20 years. My first camera was gift given to me back in 1970. The first SLR I used (borrowed at that time)was a Nikon almost 25 years back and exposed one role of film, to my horror not a single one was exposed properly, in fact not even printable. I was depressed and yet made a commitment to myself that I must learn how to shoot well. That is the reason for my indulgence in trying to manipulate the celluloid by using light (borrowed from nature, from time to time). As for audio, I remember the early years when my father used to play music on his Grundig Radiogram. The equipment with Ivory switches and teak cabinet fascinated me. Looking at the black shiny disks spinning fast and with a needle on top of it producing all the sounds always intrigued me. I had no idea why the system sounded so good; today when I look back I can understand why! It was a one-piece system; everything was almost perfectly matched and had the tubes! I enjoy writing about the things related to my hobbies and I don't hesitate to share whatever I have learnt in the process, because I firmly believe that knowledge if not shared, is good for nothing. . Computer freak, Audiophile, Serious Amateur Photographer and occasional writer (on things related to my three passions. My favourite quote from Reader's Digest ''An ordinary artist is the one who can look at a pretty girl and see the old woman she will become, a better artist is the one who can look at an old woman and see the pretty girl she used to be, but, the greatest artist is the one who can look at an old woman, portray her exactly as she is and force the viewer to see the pretty girl she used to be.''Read More
