Watched Arth the other day. This movie brought a certain Mahesh Bhatt to the limelight and as Mr. Bhatt himself has accepted, Arth is an odd adaptation of his personal relationships. The adaptation becomes all the more ironical because his amour, Parveen Babi died few days back and what with the...Read more

on one of the modern greats..i did play a lot of TT in school and college ..had a decent backhand and an awful forehand return :((
And abt the state run sports hostels of China, I can assure that entire scandinivia is not very different..although these nations are highly sufficient, the policies ...are highly socialist which sponsors every child's education and state-adoptation of talented ones..this all i have derived from first hand experiences of living there..

Raj Kapoor could make grand socialist statements using the kaleidoscope ..no wonder he was an icon across the communist East Europe and China, people in those parts of the world still identify India with Raju ..as Mrs Medha has said, he gave lifes ideals to many and gave them reasons for survival..

As Dr saab already pointed out Pran's real name is not Sikandar Bhakt (Sikandar Bhakt was infact a senior BJP leader who died recently)..another interesting trivia, Pran refused to accept the filmfare for best supporting actor in 1971 when the jury refused to give Ghulam Mohammed the best music awar...d for Pakeejah, since he was a pakistani citizen..he was the epitome of old-school goodwill, the generation that mixed well and appreciated finer nuances of each others culture.

bharat5: thx for the inspiring words..even I would like to see him go behind camera again..
munir: Yeah, he is a complete artist. Actually there can be only one Gulzar, forever; whoever follows will have sky high standards to matchup to. Thx for RRCing.
King: Absolutely agree on the depth part.....most of his songs innocuosly simple on first look, but the depth catches on progressively . And ooopss..for the mistake..i am correcting it soon..thx for rerevuing..

With all due respect to your choices (and sad that it doesn't match mine) , i think that there's a degree of inconsitency in your ranking..i think Veer-Zaara is as good as (or ad bad as) MHN and Khakee
or that Swades or Lakshya has more entertainment value than Phir Milenge..btw, agree fully ...on Dhoom, the only original movie making concept of the year... nice revu overall

'Khushboo' could've been a masterpiece but for the acting (or the lack of it) of the main protagnists..i honestly felt Hema Malini was too wooden at times and Jitendra, as you said when he isn't jumping around, is hardly alive..but hats off to Gulzar for putting faith on them..

You are absolutely right when you quote abt Jews,Cambodia, Rwanda etc..the US and USSR are second class powers and history is testimony of that..
Ironically, Germans don't have Hitler anymore on their textbooks..they are very reluctant to acknowledge that something as deplorable as holocaust happ...ened bcoz of their forefathers..wish we could wipe-out Babri Masjid and Godhra from our memories

corrections: it's Kongkona (not Konica) Sen..

Very valid points there..however, one aspect that bothers is that there is no real organic growth in the sector..also, very marginal value-add to other sectors of the economy..unlike say FDI in telecom which has just boomed up underground cables and routers business..the only people profiting are th...e sumowalahs who have contract with the agencies..
additionally, at micro level, there's not much value addition to the individual..one doesn't get exposed to various organizational aspects as in a normal job..IMHO, it's a a big facade where you are happy till the mulah keeps coming..

then they would've said thank you for enlightening us..:)), just trying to be lyrical..
The movie was much ahead of its times..Honey Irani wrote a master script and every character was so unforgettable..however, one contention, it would be really bemusing if we had reverted the scenario that is l...et the younger man marry the older woman..indians are patriarchal to the root, we just can;t visualise an older woman going around with a younger man..perhaps that's what stimulated Yash Chopra to let Anil Kapoor marry the younger Sridevi..
Another thing, in Yash Chopra movies, it's this whimsical punju sidekick who always delivers the punch..be it Vijay Khanna (Shahsi Kapoor) in Kabhi Kabhi, Anupam Kher here..this character will have such a on-your-face demeneaour that one's forced to self-introspect..maybe always an extension of the filmamaker hinself..
