Yes, I think the car still is worth a lac. However, try to aim for the Euro 3 version, the newer the model the better. The only other car that I can recommend for the lac is the Nano.

No offense bud, but your 'the reduction in weight (about 25 kgs) should lead to marginal fuel efficiency of 2-3% more that the normal Indigo. Infact if you add the Alloy Wheels to the CS, you can add another 2-3% to your fuel efficiency.' statement is as mythical as they come. The Alloys ...won't improve notable fuel efficiency AT ALL and neither will the measly 25 kgs (1/3rd the weight of an average person). If you want improved efficiency, fit Low Rolling Resistance tires like the Michelin 'Energy' brand AND a K&N Air Filter and then you may see the 2-3% you're talking about. Other than that , good write up!Read More

Yes VG, you're right. The Indica definately is a value proposition BUT the quality will never match even the Swift, forget the Fabia. The Fabia is ooozing with high quality looks, touch and other sensations. The problem is that Indians have to pay twice the price of an Indica to 'Feel Special'. ... I don't think Indians are that foolish. Does anyone else?Read More

Dinzaach, I've owned a Palio and an Indica. Trust me when I say that NOTHING beats an Indica for interior space. Nothing. The Fabia doesn't come close but is marginally better than the Swift. Thanks all for your thoughts!

Srini, In the 2 years we've owned the car, we've never had to wait more than 2-5 minutes to fill up CNG. Never! Wouldn't you rather save thousands a month for that? Reduce pollution? Reduce India's dependence on Foreign oil etc. etc. the list of benefits go on! Do the smart thing, get a ...CNG car. Read More

You make some interesting points but the bottom line is, sadly, your English does have room for improvement. Your statements are not cohesive and your sentences too fragmented. Don't take this the wrong way - you're definately better than the majority of India - but you still have lots of room... to grow. Thanks for the review and enjoy the Swift!Read More

Let's get something straight - I was one of the Fabia fanatics, waiting with cheerleader pom poms at Skoda dealerships, in eager anticipation of India's first PREMIUM hatch. I was, in fact, the first person to see the Fabia, alongwith the dealership's owner on it's day of delivery. To say tha...Read more

The CNG Optra has not caused any issues in the rainy season in Bombay. That is a myth that Taxi drivers spread, nothing more. The Optra is the most luxurious vehicle that runs CNG. If your wallet can afford one, I'd recommend it. Otherwise, try the Aveo 1.6 CNG too.

Ashi, If you are not planning on buying the General Motors kit, please dont go with the CNG option for the car. If GM sells the kits in Delhi, they have to be registered. Make sure you work that out with the dealer. Service costs, as I mentioned earlier, are the same. No difference. Servic...e intervals are 6 months, which is normal for any car. Once you realize that your monthly bill is 70% less than before you'll be so happy, you won't care. If you can't go with the GM authorized kit, I'd go with the Crdi instead of a non registered kit, as many stations won't fill for you. The best performance enhancement for CNG is a K&N air filter. Hi Ashi, Most people think that using CNG equates to higher running costs. While that may be true on Taxis, on the Optra, its not the case. Maintainance is still the same as a regular Optra. No head cleaning needed. Service the car at the authorized dealers and make sure you purchase new ai...r filter (or buy a K&N), change oil regularly and have your injectors cleaned at every service. Go ahead and enjoy your savings!Read More

Anyone claiming to get anything more than 10kmpl in a 1.6 OPTRA is either a liar or an idiot. The car is NOT capable of returning anything more than 10kmpl(that too with a huge proportion of highway driving). Also, don't worry. The engine you have is the same as the newer 'VGIS' models. The only ...difference is the 10 Rupee sticker. Another shameless GM marketing trick. If you really want to save $ on gas, go for the new GM CNG kit for Optra 1.6s Good Luck, Read More

...are not accurate. GM is an expert at inflating ALL their mileage figures because they do not build fuel efficient cars. We've had our 1.6 for 3 years now. our BEST mileage has been 9kmpl overall. IF we drive on the highway, we'll touch 10kmpl. Forget 12.2 or anything else. If you want to s...ave money, I HIGHLY reccomend you read my reviews on the car and install the GM CNG kit. You'll be able to drive 100 kms for Rs. 143. Petrol would've cost you Rs. 520. No more PUC's and you're saving the environment. Think about it!Read More

Great to see young folks in our generation willing to try out unconventional vehicles. Your review has the potential to be really informative but it grammatically flawed. The Reva is a GREAT solution to India's high petrol prices. I HIGHLY reccomend this vehicle to anyone who can use it. It's... lots of fun to drive a car that is friendlier to your wallet and the environment than even a motorcycle. Rich people buy pretty, oil consuming cars. Smart people buy REVAs. AvivRead More

Hello, It's rare to find someone who seems to know what they are talking about when it comes to cars. You're right. Hyundai IS always a step behind most Japanese manufacuteres. That is because Hyundai has always let the BIG two Japanese manufactueres take risks with design and innovations, and... then parasitically fed off their designs. That's all set to change now. 10 years ago Hyundai didn't have a strong R&D budget. While they still cannot be called ground breaking in any area, their designs are drawing increasingly less from their Japanese counterparts. Thats a good sign! Their recent contracting of detroit diesel to help design CRD diesel engines was another smart move. In one step, they are now a larger contender in the diesel market. Another area that needs improvement is the false marketing. Hyundai press releases consistently stated that the new 1.6 engine would produce atleast 110 hp, making it the most powerful 1.6L engine sold in India. That was not to be. The Optra 1.6L still holds that title. I agree with you suggestion. Wait a year or so for Hyundai to see that exploiting the Indian customer's thirst for diesel power, by removing so many features from the diesel car, was a bad idea. Add the new Ford diesel to the mix and things should get interesting. Best, Aviv Read More

It is a myth that CNG reduces engine life. Uneducated Taxiwallas spread this rumor but there has been no evidence of this mentioned anywhere. There is, however, evidence of lower pollutant levels while using CNG. Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbon and SO2 levels are 50-70% lower. Please do your homewo...rk before posting as this might misinform someone. You are correct in mentioning the removal of lead and oil imports from the equation however. Thanks alot for your feedback :) ARead More

Ashok, While I agree with your statement about power loss, the rest of your arguements hold no merit. CNG does not damage modern engines. It does worsen the condition of old Taxis which already are in poor condition. CNG cylinder weighs as much as 1-2 pieces of luggage. No suspension e...xpenses are made AT ALL. Resale value is expected to increase, not decrease. If any of the things you said were true, GM would not warrant these vehicles, nor would they sell several hundred thousand kits around the world. Thanks for your opinion though. AvivRead More
