I depended extensively on Mouthshut.com when I was planning to buy a car, and I found quite a few reviews on the Optra. Some of them were good, while others downright ridiculed the car!

After reading all, I decided to follow my gut and went ahead and bought an Optra 1.6 LS, and have not regretted that decision for one minute over the last 6 months! (BTW, the new VGIS engine was introduced one month after I bought my car!! :-(

Some of the plus points that I considered when I decided to buy it are:

  1. (In my personal opinion) Absolutely stunning looks! Even today, when I see the car, it makes me look again!

  2. An extremely quiet and refined engine. So what if it is daewoo?

  3. Cavernous cabin space

  4. Extremely well appointed interiors

  5. Overall, and 'executive' look for everything.

Post facto, I also find the service extremely good! The service station is one of the most modern I have seen.

Some things I wish could have been better are:

  1. Mileage is about 10.5 Kms/Liter in City with full A/c run.

  2. the Shock absorbers are 'too soft'. So if you are going on a bumpy road at slow speeds (at, say 20 Km/Hr), the whole car sways and swings! But you drive on this same road at 50 km/Hr, and the car just glides over! Going by the typical condition of our roads and the typical speeds at which we are forced to drive, the current shock Absorbers are not optimally tuned. I don't know if that can be changed at a service station (never asked).

So, my recommendation to anyone would be: Buy!

Cheers!
