Lets get some facts straight.. Shakti was put together by John McLaughlin and Zakir. L.Shankar was recomended by his uncle.. And I heard that concert, and yes Shrinivas was great, but John M was sublime and pulled out amazing Solos.. John M & U Shrinivas stood out among the lead players.. John M ...lost rythym? ?? Thought I'll write a ''Live Review'' :-) I have just started playing the album and I will be reviewing each song as it is getting played.. To those who haven't heard Dream Theate...Read more

A terrific writeup.. and as you summed up, its the way he effortlessly plays highly skillful notes that stands out.. And the way he makes the guitar talk.. ever checked out Yankee Rose? Chinnu, Dont think much of Sach.. Vai & Petrucci are in a different league, in my humble opinion..

Were a unique band -> and i think what set them apart was that Johny Rotten's snarl.. The laugh followed by the 'Iii am an Anti-Christ...' One of my all time fav openings! Keep writing more of these Deaser.. Cheers, Koushik

Coming up with an updated list. and no, but for Jeff Beck & John McLaughlin, the rest wouldnt even figure in this list! _ On looking back, looks like I've tried too much within 8000 characters. And as I can write on and on about music, am gonna start keeping my recommendations very specifi...Read more

Nice pick of artists.. Howcome nobody mentions Rush, Tull, Cream, ELP, Yes, APP, The Who, Dream Theater, Reo, Boston.. ?? Damocles - i guess u r refering to Layla unplugged. The layla original + layla from 'Rainbow Concert' (my fav version) are real rockin numbers. The Rainbow concert version ...has - Clapton, Pete Twonshend, Grench on leads, Ron Wood on bass, Capaldi on drums, Steve Winwood on keyboards - how does that sound?? :-)Read More

I liked the way you described each of the songs. And a good choice of bands too. I guess u could think of only 13 becos -- Quite a few of the songs you listed are simply famous hits - not necessarily masterpieces I'd suggest you listen to more numbers from bands like Pink Floyd, Rush, Jethro T...ull, Led Zep, Dire Straits etc to come across some of the top masterpiecesRead More

I guess you are one of those guys who's developed an allergy for Plants vocals. Cant blame you. But 'Stairway to heaven' is a masterpiece. One of the best songs ever. Apart from that, got to agree with your list. :-) ~stormbringer~

That was very informative. I'm one of those guys who's very interested in guitars without knowing how to play em. Hope you throw some light on double necks, different types of bass gitars etc in your next article.

When you listen to some songs - you cant help feeling they are a cut above the rest. Maybe the way they are composed, the lyrics, the instrumentals, vocals or probably everything put together. I have my own private list of such numbers. To make it shorter, I've listed only one number per band - ...Read more

Apart from Eric and maybe Garth Brooks & Stevie Wonder, the rest of the artists mentioned have one thing in common - they simply cannot bring out the mod leave alone the emotions the lyrics are supposed to convey through their music. I've listened to these numbers. They are at best simple mel...odies that went on to become hits for the moment. Why dont you check out some of the numbers by Straits/Tull. Even Boston & Reo. The numbers mentined - hits maybe. But simply too shallow. ~Stormbringer~Read More
