When I start writing this review, I wonder if there’s a point in the exercise as we are talking about choosing a few from thousands of songs in about 30 to 40 years of good music. As for love songs, there has to be a basic minimum requirement of good lyrics, music, tempo and mood to be successful. The songs have to have a soul and you should feel as if you could hear these again and again. I read a review heading which said 10 best love songs. I tried to pen down 10 but then it became 20 and then 18, but somehow I managed to make it 10 and then added the rest in the also worthy mentions. Five is impossible. So here is the list as follows not particularly in any order:(I had a hard time choosing from so many songs, and then to choose and rank among them that’s cruel). I have taken the liberty to type the lyrics of some of the songs. Is there any site any of you know where the lyrics of all songs are available at once and I don’t have to type them. Mail me the URL on that one.
Nothing's Gonna Change My Love
This has to be the best song and if you read all the reviews on this topic at this site this song might be the one likely to be in everybody’s list. Originally it was sung by George Benson and this is the version that I love. It has been sung in a deep voice with a nice bass. The one by Glen Medeiros is not bad but it is a bit boyish and basically if you hear both you’ll know what I am talking about.
I just called to say I love you
Talk about love songs and who better than Stevie Wonder. A great voice and nice lyrics make this song unforgettable. It is also very hummable and it’s a semi-sad song and that makes it more romantic.
In Another's Eyes
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are the artists for this song and it is simply loveable. It has a slow start and has a nice buildup towards a fair paced tempo. The lyrics begin as follows
Garth
In Another's Eyes,
I’m someone who,
Loves her enough,
To Walk Away from you,
I’d never cheat
I would never lie
In Another's Eyes… Yeah.
Trisha
In Another's Eyes,
I can do no wrong
And he believes in me
And his faith is strong
I’d never fault or even compromise
In Another's Eyes,
Together
In Another's Eyes,
I’m afraid that I can see
Garth
This picture perfect portrait
That they paint of me
Together
They don’t realize
And I pray they never do
Coz every time I look
I’m Seeing you
In Another's Eyes,
Why don’t you hear the rest when you download it, buy it, whatever.
Faith Hill - This Kiss
This song features in the soundtrack of Practical Magic too. I absolutely love it. The lyrics are great, so is Faith Hill. The song is like a country song almost.
The chorus:
It’s the way you love me
It’s a feeling like this
It’s centrivical motion
It’s perpetual bliss
It’s that pivotal moment
It’s Ah So Criminal
This Kiss This Kiss
It’s Criminal
This Kiss This Kiss
Bryan Adams - Everything I do
This song features in the soundtrack of the movie Robin Hood- Prince of Thieves. Bryan Adams’ groovy voice makes this song haunt you. Again needless to say great tune and lyrics and nice video as well.
Berlin -Take my breath away
This song is from the soundtrack of Top Gun. It is a very simple tune to sing. This song also has that haunting quality especially the chorus line which goes thus.
Watching in slow motion as you turn around and say
Take my Breath Away(2)
Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight
This is another mushy slow love song. An Added Attraction here is Eric Clapton’s Guitar which blends with the song so well. The lyrics are simple too. This is the best song for a slow waltz.
It’s late in the evening
She’s wondering what clothes to wear
She puts on her makeup
And brushes her long long hair
And then she asks me,
Do I look alright?
And I say yes!
You look Wonderful Tonight.
You go to a party
And everyone turns to see
This beautiful Lady
Is walking around with me
And then she asks me
Do you feel alright?
And I say yes!
I feel Wonderful Tonight
I feel Wonderful because I see the love right in your eyes
And the wonder of it all is that you just don’t realize how much I love you.
It’s time to go home now
And I’ve got an aching head
So I give her the car keys
And she helps me to bed
And then I tell her
As I turn out the light
I say My Darling!
You Were Wonderful Tonight.
Oh My Darling
You were Wonderful Tonight.
Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman - Something Stupid(I Love you)
This is a recent song but it is a remake of the original song sung by Frank and Nancy Sinatra I guess. The lyrics are great again and the tune has a nice flip flop in each line and a balanced approach to the chorus which is as follows:
And then I go and spoil it all by saying Something Stupid like
I Love you.
Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting - All For Love
Try getting these three together and make a bad song. This song is fro the soundtrack of the Three Musketeers. And their motto One for all and All for One has been modified into the chorus with beautiful words and the three voices almost make the song serene. This is a must listen Song.
Lobo - I'd love you to want me
Another nice slow song. In this the piano which is used very sparingly is great. The lyrics go thus:
When I saw you standing there.
About fell off my chair
And when you moved your mouth to speak
I felt the blood go to my feet
Now it took time for me to know
What you tried so not to show
Something in m soul just cried
I see the warmth in your blue eyes
Baby, I’d love you to want me
The way that I want you
The way that it should be
Baby, you’d love me to want me
The way that I want to
If you’d only let it be.
