There’s something about this title that inspires a genuine comedy from its director. While, Hrishi da’s Golmaal with the inimitable Utpal Dutt and the evergreen Amol Palekar is already Bollywood legend, Rohit Shetty manages to raise quite a laugh with the new version as well. Although, the plot ...Read more

The problem with this album is that it suffers from the inevitable comparison with the original at every stage and falls flat in most cases. His films are as offbeat as his musical compositions yet both manage to touch a chord in the audience heart. The trouble with candyfloss directors is that they are inept to handle subjects alien to them. Sooraj Barjatya faced this issue when he changed tack from old-fashioned romances and tried to make a so-called modern love story called Main Prem Ki Deewani. Now, Karan Johar faces a similar stumbling...Read more

Rajesh Roshan has put in his best efforts for brother Rakesh Roshan’s movies, but this time the album is comme ci comme ca. A few songs are dazzling while the rest are dull. These are my mother's views on the album. I am posting it here as she is not computer savvy. Sachein, This revu deserved the ROTD tag. Garam Masala is a Hindi remake of the mallu hit Boeing Boeing which is again a copy of the Hollywood flick by the same name. Agreed it is a laugh riot. And God knows, with all the tension and stress around we are in bad need of laughter. But the only object...ion I had to this movie was the portrayal of women as mere props. They are shown as objects to please men and that seems to be their be all and end all in this flick. Hope Priyan does justice to his heroines in his forthcoming films by portraying them as women of substance instead of dull headed bimbettes. Keep penning your thoughts SmitaRead More

It is sad that red tapism and bias is ruining Indian cinema's image abroad. Giving precedence to a film like Paheli over classics like Black is bad enough. But to actually send it as India's entry for the Oscars is ridiculous. This is the catrgory which featured gems like Mother India, Mughal e Azam... and more recently Lagaan. How can the esteemed jury decide to put Indian cinema at stake just to please a few top guns. If we do not give cinema the respect it deserves we cannot expect it to respect us. SmitaRead More

That was a great review on a not so great album. Agreed that Himesh is one of the few Gen Next composers who have a sense of melody but too much of a good thing is a bad thing And I believe that Himesh is overworked. Almost five albums in three months can take a toll on anybody. Himesh's tunes sound... worn out. The album seems heavily influenced by Nadeem Shravan's style of composing. Though the tunes are decent compared to the cacophonic din that is predominating the music industry nowadays, it is nowhere close to what Himesh is capable of. Tere Naam and Ashiq Banaya Aapne still remain his best creations. Waiting for similar gems from the whizkid. Keep penning your thoughts SmitaRead More
