Originality:

Just when you thought that Anu Malik had been buried in the Himesh and Pritam melody deluge he is back, not with a bang, but a small blast nevertheless with his latest offering, Inder Kumar’s Pyare Mohan. And the collection has pretty decent tunes that make for an enjoyable evening.

The song doing the promo rounds nowadays, Har Mohan ki starts with strains of Tumse milke from Main Hoon Na and then progresses into a fun number on its own. Shaan and Udit Narayan render this bachelor-in-search-of-a-wife song quite convincingly.

A Kunal Ganjawala solo has become a staple part of any music album nowadays and Pyaare Mohan is no exception. And, not surprisingly, Tu Jahan Bhi Jayegi is by far the best track of the movie and so has been given five versions, the other versions being sung by Udit and Alka. But Kunal’s rendition is the finest and has been competently remixed to increase the pace.

Sunidhi and Nikita Nigam voice the female desires (vis a vis the all male number Har Mohan ki) in Rabba de di jawaani. The tempo of this lounge-club number is heightened by some competent percussion. A not-to-be-missed track.

The Sukhwinder clone, Krishna teams up with the superlatively talented but underrated Richa Sharma in the poignant love ballad Rab Sach Hai. Richa’s vocals enhance the emotional quotient of the song. It is sad that Richa only gets to sing these Punjabi sad song kinds of numbers. Her versatility should be exploited to the fullest in other genres as well.

The title track by Trickbaby comes next and given the current trend of hip-hop rap (Meter Down and Right here, right now), it seems to be a winner right from its first beat. Incidentally, it is the same Trickbaby who crooned in Bluffmaster. It seems a potential remix track.

Sonu Nigam returns to the Ada (Garam Masala) mood in Day by Day, a fun song that promises to be only that and nothing else. Being the most over worked lyricist nowadays, Sameer seems to have run out of Hindi and Urdu shaayari as he takes refuge in English lyrics continuously. But we are not complaining as the song has the desired effect.

Not many would like to buy a mediocre album like Pyaare Mohan but those who go for it will get their money’s worth as all the songs start getting addictive after four or five hearings.
