The Hindi action thriller, ‘Qayamat’ released in July 2003 starring Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, Sanjay Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Isha Koppikar, Riya Sen, Neha Dhupia and Ashish Chaudhary was produced by Pammi Baweja and directed by Harry Baweja. The film’s story was written by Harry Baweja while the Screenplay was written by Harry Baweja and Suparn Verma. The film’s music was by Nadeem Shravam and the lyrics were written by Sameer. The film was distributed by Baweja Movies. The film was a remake of the Hollywood film, ‘The Rock’. The film narrates the efforts of CBI(Central Bureau of Investigation) to arrest criminals and stop a city from being destroyed by a deadly virus. Hence the name of the film, ‘Qayamat: City Under Threat’.
Akram Sheikh(Sunil Shetty), a CBI officer is assigned the task to arrest three terrorists, namely, Ali(Sanjay Kapoor), Abbas Ramani(Arbaaz Khan) and their common girlfriend, Laila(Isha Koppikar). The trio takes 213 people as hostage in the Elphinston Jail of Mumbai. With the help of a corrupt scientist and his assistant, Rahul(Ashish Chaudhary) the 3 terrorists force them to create 3 missiles with a deadly virus that could kill everything within a radius of 3-Kms. Rachit(Ajay Degan), once-an-associate of the three terrorists is suffering from the trauma of being betrayed by his friends and the death of his only love, Sapna(Neha Dhupia).
Akram seeks permission from higher authorities to take Rachit’s help in arresting the terrorists. Rachit, Akram and Rahul(unaware of his boss’s deal with the trio) join hands to arrest them. Unfortunately, they find out Akram’s plan and a fight ensues in a tunnel, in which he is killed. Rachit suffers from many hallucinations but luckily Sapna is alive. When she is informed by the CBI about Rachit, she prays to meet him safely. Rahul disarms two of the missiles as Rachit fights with Ali and Abbas’s men. In the midst of this fight, Ali tries releasing the third missile but Rachit reaches at the nick of the time and kills the trio terrorists.
Sapna and Rachit are happily united after years and Rachit is normal to lead a healthy life.
The film was not very successful at the box office but watching the simple fact of Nature and Life, ‘The victory of goodness over evil’ was interesting.
