The Hindi Film, ‘Ghanchakkar’ a Bollywood suspense comedy caper, is directed by Rajkumar Gupta and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor. The film was released in June this year. The film stars Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan in the lead role. The supporting cast inlcudes Namit Das and Rajesh Sharma. The film did average business at the box office but the producers made profits and the acting of the lead characters was appreciated.

The film revolves around the ‘Craziness’ Sanjay Atre(Emraan Hashmi) goes through after commting a crime and suffering from amnesia. Sanjay is a suave man married to a Punjabi girl, Neetu(Vidya Balan) who wants to make quick money. He along with Pandit(Rajesh Sharma) and Idris(Namit Das) rob a bank of 35 crores and leave the money with Sanjay, till the matter cools down. 3 months down the line, Pandit and Idris visit Sanjay asking for their share of the looted cash. During these 3 months, Sanjay met with an accident and has undergone a memory loss. His mother keeps calling him and he tells her he will talk to her some day.

Sanjay suspects Neetu of stealing the money from him and having an affair with Uttam Nagpal(Pravin Dabas) as she was seen with him exploring a flat in a posh locality. Uttam became very rich recently. Moreso, Neetu plans to go to London with Uttam. This confrontation between Sanjay and Neetu takes place in a local train in front of Pandit and Idris and Idris looses his mind. He is about to shoot when he is hit by Baba(Shashank Shende), the master mind behind the plan, who now wants the entire money back and was threatening Sanjay on phone. In an attempt to save each others lives Baba, Pandit and Idris die. Sanjay and Neetu are hurt. Sanjay receives his mother’s call telling him that he has left a heavy bag in her house 3 months ago and if he does not come to pick it up, she will give it to the scrap dealer. Sanjay cannot remember his mother and throws away his phone outside the train in frustration. Neetu smiles seeing him.

The film critics received the film with mixed reactions. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the film and would surely recommend it to all movie-goers.
