The Hindi film, ‘Aashiqui 2’ released in April 2013 is a sequel to the popular romantic film, ‘Aashiqui’ of 1990. The film has been produced by Bhushan Kumar, Mukesh Bhatt and Krishan Kumar under the T-Series and Vishesh Films banners and directed by Mohit Suri. The film stars Aditya Roy Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Shaad Randhawa. The film Story and Screenplay is written by Shagufta Rafique. There were apprehensions to produce the sequel on fears of it being able to match the success rate of the first film.

The film storyline revolves around the turbulent relationship of Rahul and Aarohi due to Rahul’s addiction of alcohol and abusive nature. Rahul Jaykar( Aditya Roy Kapoor) is performing in Goa when he is interrupted by Aryan( Sahil Acharya) . Rahul completes one song and fights with Aryan and goes to a bar as he is addicted to drink. He meets Aarohi( Shraddha Kapoor) who idolizes him. Rahul is impressed by her singing and convinces her that she must leave her job and come to Mumbai as he finds a star singer in her. Aarohi obeys Rahul. Rahul asks his record producer, Saigal( Mahesh Thakur) to meet Aarohi once who agrees to Rahul’s request.

Rahul is attacked by unknown people when Aarohi calls him up. Vivek, Rahul’s friend and manager decides not to inform the media about Rahul’s accident and publishes false news in papers. Aarohi tries calling him up but Vivek informs her that he has left for abroad for stage performances. After fruitless efforts for 2 months to contact Rahul, Aarohi rejoins her bar job. When Rahul comes to know about this he gets into fight with Vivek. Rahul seeks Aarohi’s forgiveness and trains her for becoming a singer. Aarohi signs a contract with a film as a singer. Aarohi and Rahul are happy and fall in love with one another. People gossip about Rahul using Aarohi as a servant which make him increase his addiction. Against her family’s wish, Aarohi moves in with Rahul to help him get over his drinking but Rahul becomes more addictive and abusive.

Aarohi takes him to a rehabilitation centre and sacrifices her career for him. Saigal reminds Aarohi about her dream. Aarohi gets to perform a stage show where Rahul fights with a journalist when he overhears him saying he is using her as a servant. Rahul ends in jail and falls back on addiction again. Further, Rahul overhears Aarohi talking to Saigal that she will sacrifice her career for Rahul. Rahul realizes that he has to go away from Aarohi’s life and drowns himself one sad day.

Aarohi is seen signing her name on an autograph as ‘Aarohi Rahul Jaykar’ as a successful star keeping Rahul’s alive by continuing to sing.

The film got positive and mixed response from critics due to its negative ending. The performances of the lead stars are appreciative. Songs like, ‘Sun Raha hai na tu’ and ‘Tum Hi Ho’ are super hits. Overall, it’s a romantic musical worth watching for all movie lovers.
