The Hindi Film ‘Kai Po Che’ is the story of 3 friends who live in Gujarat. The film has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor and directed by Abhishek Kapoor. The film was released on 22nd February 2013 all India. The music is by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire. The film is based on Chetan Bhagat’s book, ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’ narrating the drama in the lives of 3 Gujju Buddies namely Ishaan (Sushant Singh Rajput), Omi (Amit Sadh) and Govind (Raj Kumar Yadav).

Set in Ahmedabad, the film is a flashback narration by Omi who is released from Jail where Govind has come to pick him up. Ishaan is an ex-district level cricket player who was a victim of politics in cricket. Omi is well to do among his three best friends as his uncle is a Hindu politician and his guardian. Simplest among the 3 is Govind who is teacher. Ishaan requests Govind to teach mathematics to his sister Vidya (Amtira Puri) whose examinations are nearing. Motivated by Ishaan Omi requests his uncle for funds to start a ‘Sports Shop and Academy’ in their locality. Omi’s uncle gives him the money expecting him to join his Hindu political party soon. The Sports shop begins and runs successfully. Digvijay Deshmukh who plays Ali, is an exceptionally good cricketer. He is selected by Ishaan to join his academy who finds in him an upcoming cricketing superstar. This is not liked by many Hindus but Ishaan who is an out of the way smart and confident guy works hard on him.

Vidya and Govind fall in love with one another. The film continues with the 2001 destructive earthquake which hit Gujarat in 2001. Properties and lives are lost. People start relocating to other places as their houses are turned to dust. Ali’s family also is among the sufferers. Omi is forced to join his Uncle’s party due to the destruction of the new property they bought for their new sports shop and their debts escalate. Govind and Ishaan are also upset and sad, seeing their dreams being shattered.

Differences crop up between the three friends occur with time. Ishaan enters into a brawl with Omi’s party requesting them to get shelter for Ali and his family. Omi’s parents are returning from Ayodhya when the Godhra massacre takes place in their train and they die. Fearing communal riots, Ishaan and Govind hide in Ali house and also protect them. Bittu is killed in the riots. Omi rushes to kill Ali with a gun. Ishaan comes to know about Vidya’s relationship with Govind and is agitated on them. Omi aims his bullet on Ali and Ishaan in his attempt to save Ali is killed. Omi is arrested while Govind and Vidya are united.

The film has taken too many events in the film. Cricket is a good idea but the film gets confusing with so many things happening one after another. But the film surely leaves an impact on the audience. All the three boys have done a good work as debutant actors. Credit surely goes to the director but also to the entire cast and crew. It’s worth watching the film for once.
