Better be an owl than a monkey!

When something expected comes in our life, does it always bring the unexpected and unwanted also with it? Standing at a corner of the bustling street I was thinking of it. Dressed casually in the well worn jeans,t-shirt and hooded jacket I seemed most unnoticeable. There was no reason for people to pay some special attention to me. It was new year's eve,the most awaited night for most of the Bangalorean youths. The roads were jam-packed. After much search we got an empty corner to park our vehicle, proper parking were just out of question. Boys were gone in search of food. I preferred to stay near the car and explore the area a little. I was watching the maddening crowd. Some wild music was blaring out from a sports bar,the car was vibrating itself badly. So I stepped outside. People were in party mood. All the shops were full, but I observed that the shops selling liquors have the highest number of customers. Even saw many people sitting outside the popular restaurants, waiting for their turn. Cars honking, people pushing you from every side, loud music, wild cheers.........everything made a HUGE noise. I wanted to think of something, but soon found out that in that noise I can't even concentrate. Few girls in skimpy outfits were getting maximum attentions from people around. I stared at them. In those outfits and loud make up, they couldn't hide the uneasiness or discomfort. They were searching for a safe place where people will not disturb them anymore. At that time this thought crossed my mind.

These girls wanted to look somehow special on this special occasion. They may have arranged for all these outfits and everything from long back. They also have planned well for the party. Well, every other person is doing that, courtesy: advertisements of new year's parties. One website even depicting in their ad that sitting at home on new year's eve in a "slapable" offence!!!!!!!! People get carried away by this kind of things easily. Recently people are prone to follow the "trend" so the madness is not quite unexpected. But...........there is always a "But". Here the question is,is the madness, the craze quite justified? I am not being cynic, neither I disapprove celebrating or enjoying some special events. But what about the limit? 31st December comes every year, people celebrate it like anything! Many resolutions taken, many vows broken......well,that's the trend. Nobody really even remembers about it after few days. Then? Who made the rule that everybody has to get out of their houses compulsorily on this day and have to do crazy things till they get dead tired, hit the bed like a stone and wake up very late next day with a horrible hangover? What we are following actually? If the end result was within limit I didn't have any objection. But every year I have seen,my friends who used to go to these parties would repent later.........."If only we didn't go,if only we didn't drink so much"......and so on! What is the use to fill up the first day of a New year with remorse and sadness only with your previously done action? If you want to be happy,do something that brings happiness in positive way. Don't opt for something adventurous which ends in disaster or to what you are not at all used to. End the year with some positive promise, start the year with some positive actions. If possible visit an orphanage or old age home and spend some time with people there. Give your family some quality time, take them out for a picnic lunch. Arrange for small family or friends' get together at home, serve them some of your home made special dishes. If you don't like huge gathering, select a corner and spend the time with your favourite book or movies or music. At least you will not be guilt-ridden. We do everything to be happy, then why should we invite worries by some stupid and unmindful actions? Let's utilize the celebration times wisely,to invest it in a proper manner so that it results in more and more happiness for all of us.See all, gather knowledge, but don't go trying everything. The owl sees everything but acts selectively; but the monkey runs after everything, jumps a lot and results in trouble.

P.S. Now if you ask what was I doing at that night, I am going to let you know,I was running away from a party which was taking place in my apartment! I preferred to stay away and spend some time with my brother who stays alone. There was no food at home so we went to buy it from outside and got stuck in traffic for long time.
