Wonderful review buddy. A rich review I don't come across often on Mouthshut. It bears your signature. Thank you again as a Bengali film lover for having reviewed a Bengali film.
But....wish you spared a few words on Indrani Halder, who is undoubtably one of the best actresses around in Bengali c...inema.
Cheers

Hi buddy
You've picked yet another good movie, not in the popular genre, to tell us about. Your review informs us well about the movie. But I wish you spent a few lines on actors. I was keen to learn how Konkona fared in this movie.
Anyways, keep writing.
Cheers

Hi
Mouthshut is a site which thousands of people look in to know more about a product in an advisory way. Hence one should be serious about writing a review here.
While I appreciate your feelings for the movie, I can't help telling you that what you have written is not what can be called a 'Revi...ew'. I hope you know what reviews are like. In case you want to know more please look at the top rated reviews of Don.
Looking forward to good reviews from you in the futture.

Vishal’s Maqbool, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, must have been a learning experience for him. Everything about the film was right…….except the star quotient and the marketing. Being an intelligent director Vishal must have realized the value of both soon and got it right with his next ...Read more

Hey Anindo
Thanks buddy for bringing this gem of a movie to Mouthshut. Your review is well-written.
I am damn upset with myself for I had assumed this movie to be typical 'Bengali intellectual stuff' when it released. By the time I realised my mistake it went away from my fav hunt Nandan.
Suman... has surprised all with his debut. What a debut by a theatre director with not even the minimum of film experience.
For everybody who would like to keep tabs of this new talent, Suman will be making an Amitav Ghosh novel based on India and abroad (Apart from filimg a Tagore novel). But first he will organise funds for this ambitious Rs 15-20 cr Bengali film slated to start in 2008. Lets wish him all the best.
Cheers

Dear Amrita
Sorry I took quite some time to read your review after you invited.
First let me thank you for writing a good and extremely useful review on a highly hyped but poorly performing co.- ICICI Bank.
I completely relate to your 'water queue' experience. In fact going to a queue-free IC...ICI Bank ATM is a rarity.
On their branch-banking I will just recall my experience. I went to my branch in Kolkata (I chose to open my salary a/c there, mainly becaue their ATM network has awesome reach). I was told that for making any query I have to collect the 'respective' slip and wait for my 'turn'. I waited and waited for that desired turn just to make a simple query. When I saw in the electronic board that the no. of the person next to me is flashing, I went to the desk. They serviced me, but didn't apologize for the lapse. It seemed they are used to it and take their retail customers for granted.
I often keep hearing from my colleague in commercial section in my office how disgusting they are getting in servicing our co. My co., an Indian MNC in FMCG industry, is a big customer of ICICI Bank in Kolkata. If this is how they value their corporate customers, they stand to lose business the day a comparably competent private bank comes in.
Keep writing Amrita.
Cheers!

Hi buddy
Great 'first-day-first-show' review again. Almost the points have been touched upon.
However I wish you would spend some words on the action direction by Tony Ching (of 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' fame). It was one of the key attractions of the film and Rakesh Roshan has said today... on Star News that he gave the movie a diferent look with Tony doing the needful.
Would like to hear from you.
Cheers

Hi Anindo
Liked the review. Feels good to comment on it first.
But I wish you could elaborate a little on the story and where and how exactly the script slipped up. Everybody interested in this visibly offbeat film would like to find out on these two.
Perhaps you were grossly diappointed with... the film and that showed in the review.
Anyways, keep writing on offbeat films.
Cheers

‘Con men’ has always been a favourite subject in Hindi cinema. In recent times Bunti Aur Babli dealt with it. And the con movie was unique in a way that it was on a con couple.

Hi Anindo
Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
Buddy, the movie was made on a shoestring budget and hence the promotional budget was small compared to today's big budget Bengali movies. Hence the makers decided to unfurl the promotion with a teaser campaign. The copy may sound cliche but it manage...d to catch people's attention.
Pls watch the movie. You'll like it. And post a review.
Know what Madhur Bhandarkar said about the film on watching a screening? 'It will take Mumbai another couple of years to make a movie like this.'
Cheers
Anirban
PS: I guess by 'let down' you referred to the seminar by Kaushik Ganguly that was part of the promotion. Yes, it was a let down because it was not planned well. But the teaser campaign with posters was successful.

Hi Anindo
Thanks for a different opinion. Comments like yours broaden the perspective of the analysis of a film.
And don't say sorry for a different opinion. I seek honest opinions and not pleasant ones.
Keep them coming.

Hi
I agree with you on things like the dialogue by Shiny, their first meeting where Kangna's reaction possibly deems it was flowers and not a pistol in Shiny's hands, and of course music.
However I disagree on-
1. It is not a traingle love story in the first place. I hope it was not promoted/ o...fficially announced to be one. So what if most part of the movie implies that there is a triangle?
2. Shiny may falter at a few places but does not overact overall. In fact his is an understated, restrained performance. He has been given few lines.
3. Don't gangsters fall in love? Has Daya been shown as a hardcore romantic fool since he was in love? Just in context, this movie is reportedly inspired by Abu Salem- Monica Bedi's life. Hope it justifies the romance bit.
But I liked reading your review. Keep writing.
Cheers
