Lovely review of a lovely film! The film reminded me of the middle-of-the-road cinema that prospered in the seventies and the eighties. The script and supporting cast has seldom been this robust ('Delhi Belly' had scored likewise too)! I am so glad that this breezy film is being lapped up by vi...ewers from different segments of the society. It speaks loads about how silly the compartmentalization of viewership, that mainstream filmmakers often stress on, can be. A good film is a good film, and an entertainer is an entertainer, period.Read More

hahaha.... It's really a very interesting write-up. Keep up the good work. Funny anecdotes are a rarity, and hence, always welcome.

Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay seems to have made 'HOUSEFUL' as a torment device for all his detractors. In doing so, he has even risked losing the few loyalists he has had. Interestingly, barring 'Shilpantar', I have seen all his films from 'Sampradan' to 'Kaal'. In my view, Bappaditya has much promis...e among the fresh breed of directors in Tollygunge. But after seeing 'Houseful', I'd say: He seriously needs to move on, lest he stagnates with a rehashing routine. My take on the performances in HOUSEFUL: Nitya Ganguly's act is really the BEST. I would say he really deserves an award! Prosenjit, Rwita & Sreelekha are good too. Rupa, Anindya & Anasuya are competent in the bit roles. Rimjhim is good but she too doesn't have much to do. Ushasie & Rachna fail to impress. Maybe Bappaditya did not want to delve deeper into their roles. The cinematography is EXCELLENT. The music is quite pleasing. I loved the tracks too.Read More

Nice review. BUT the review has been erroneously placed among the Bollywood movies. Please see to it that the review finds its rightful place in the Regional Movies section which features all the Bengali films.

Crusoe In Flesh

Oct 01, 2009 06:04 PM

Cool Robinson Crusoe - or rather the story itself - used to be my childhood fantasy as I kept enacting episodes from the novel in my mind's theater. I missed out watching the filmed version that starred Pierce Brosnan as Crusoe, and I am unlucky to not being able to watch this televised version on F...ox (as I reach home at around ten on Monday nights). But am glad that you've shown your appreciation for Crusoe in this cool diary post. Write more!;)Read More

What We Lose............

True friendship is like sound health, the value of it is seldom known until it is lost. Sometimes we do not realize what we lose in the fire even when we see the ashes, or the burnt remains... The loss, the absence, the pain really sits heavy on our hearts when we are confronted by so...Read more

Rituparno Ghosh has revisited familiar territory - conjugal conflicts. But this time there is a new angle, well not quite new in terms of a device used in other films made by him, that of poetry and rediscovering oneself & one's love in the light of it. Bipasha Basu plays Radhika, the protago...Read more

A wonderful review! The review makes me eager to catch the movie at the earliest opportunity. Sadly, 'Bolt' did not have a fair run in the theaters here in Kolkata; I had to give it a miss hence. But now, as the movie has been released on home video, I'll surely rush for the video store to grab a co...py. I trust your judgment. I look forward to all your recommendations.Read More

Was the write-up really about 'real versus fake'? I doubt, REALLY! I do not mind people passing comments on others even if they happen to be judgmental, based purely on biases & preferences which is a far cry from doing a reality-check; but I detest when people try to adopt a 'holier than thou' s...tance and refuse to call their opinionated dictum just that and think that they are thus doing a service to the higher powers, whatever that be!Read More

'Love Aaj Kal' is a fun-watch, especially for Saif, the catchy songs & the funny dialogues. The art direction was very impressive! I wish the makers had pulled more punches with the script though. On the whole, I found it interesting to watch mainly because of the clever inter-cutting betwe...en Kolkata & San Francisco punctuating the back-and-forth narration. The Howrah bridge and the Golden Gate bridge, plus the tramcars in both the cities, provide the unique criss-crossings - a visual delight indeed! The funniest part is that a gorgeous Brazilian model, Giselle Monteiro, has played the role of the coy Punjabi girl! That was absolutely avoidable, in my opinion. Read More

Cool review of a really groovy movie!;-) I went to see 'Hangover' in its third week of run at a multiplex, and was amazed to find that the movie was running to packed houses - a rarity for English language flicks in Kolkata! I did hear a lot of positive buzz about the movie, but was still apprehen...sive as the credits hardly had big names, other than the much known Heather Graham. Yet, I went ahead with a dear friend of mine.... and was amply rewarded. It is a perfect example of absolute silyness that works best in the company friends (must be male)! We rolled in delirious laughter & had a great time munching popcorn & watching the pop-'corny' flick!Read More

Though the film gives us a new perspective on Wolverine, by delving deep into his mysterious past, I think it could have done away with some of the excesses and instead given more prominence to the evolution of Wolverine's angst. However, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber an...d Lynn Collins provide a lot of steam in this new movie. Terrifically beefed up Hugh Jackman reminded me a lot of Mel Gibson in his heydays! I found the comedy involving Fred Dukes aka Blob (played by Kevin Durand) to be rather unfunny!Read More

Cool review! So what, if the film has got not so cool a response from the critics and also from the ticket-buying public! The newcomer hero did seem promising in the promos, but am saddened to learn that a dud like this film happens to be his launch-pad and thus, quoting you, makes his 'future imperf...ect'!Read More
