Yeah I agree with you pri20. I really can't believe that they actually gave the guy a prize. I mean, the least the mouthshut guys could do is just read the 5-6 reviews that they are giving prizes too. I am sure that's not toooo demanding. The funny thing is I just read Punjabiboner's profile and ...it turns out that he is a Rao from Bangalore !!! Perhaps he suffers from an inferiority complex ?!Read More

Well, thankfully most of the other readers have already given their views on the Punjabi so I shall be saved from saying too much. I think he has mentioned too many of his prejudices in one small comment....East, West, North, South...:-) Anyway, frankly speaking, after visiting Europe, I found th...at, yes, most of the Europeans do have certain endearing manners like wishing strangers in a lift, saying Hi to people siiting in front of you in a metro... BUT service standards are extremely poor in comparison to India. Probably because there are very few service staff unlike in India. Its not uncommon to find only one lady serving breakfast in a crowded restaurant. Obviously, service will be bad and they are not apologetic about it. Mostly I found people very patient with the lack of service which was a little difficult for me to digest. Secondly, I feel Indians are in fact much better behaved there. I saw some of them thanking the bus driver before getting off - something which they would never do in India. Some were a little crude but that was more due to ignorance than lack of manners. Talking about Indian carriers, I feel they are angels after having flown BA :-) At least they give warm food and sont complain if you ask for water. I dont know why Punjabi feels South Indians should be differentiated from North Indians. I assume he means North Indians are superior, which I would definitely not agree. In fact, I feel that the only place in India (and I have travelled quite a bit) where people are genuinely rude and the service is as bad as in Europe is New Delhi (where I am living now). To give a small and typical example, the people at the parlour I go to in Delhi refuse to recognise me although I have been going there for a year whereas the people at the parlour in Kolkata (where I lived before) not only knew my name but also knew my son's name, how old he was and which school he attended !!! I can give a million such examples........Read More

Where do I begin ...? The first flight we (my husband, my son and me) took on BA was from Delhi to London. The flight attendants were absolutely awful. We asked for 2 glasses of water. The attendant came with one. When we told him again that we wanted 2 glasses, he demanded whywe didn't tell hi...Read more

Being new to Delhi and living very close to Olympia Gym, GK-II, I decided to join up, desperate to lose some weight. One advice I would like to give prospective customers of gyms is to pay a visit to the gym during the time slot that you plan to go in. Since I am working, the only time I can ...Read more

Well, its been 3 years now and we have done 5000 kms. Its still doing pretty well. All that we have done so far is changed the battery once. And one clutch seal was replaced. There was the normal change of brake shoes at 25000 kms.

The first question that comes to mind while investing (I say ''investing'' because digital cameras can cost quite a bit) in a digital camera is whether it is really worth the money to buy a digital one or whether it is good enough to buy a normal one. It is true that one can buy a very good n...Read more

After reading some of the reviews on this movie (which were quite mixed), I thought I would write what I liked about this movie. Kolkata has always been viewed by other metros as being dirty, boring and full of people who start a ''michhil'' (strike/procession) at the drop of a hat. I have friends living in Delhi who are very well-travelled but have never been to Kolkata. Yet, they are the main people who seem to be propa...Read more

I fervently hope ’’Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’’ - one of the most favourite Indian serials at present - is not a reflection of the Indian psyche. But first, I’ll start with the good (redeeming) qualities : One good thing is that the mothers-in-law / daughters-in-law are not shown typic...Read more
