After reading some of the reviews on this movie (which were quite mixed), I thought I would write what I liked about this movie.
For one, when I went in to see this movie, I really didn't know it was a Steven Spielberg one. If you are expecting Sci-fi or the like, you will be definitely disappointed.
But this is one of those movies where you can really identify with the main character (Tom Hanks). When everthing seems to be going wrong, the guy manages to make the best of it and retain his sense of humour.
He is a survivor. And he comes out top.
I also liked the character of Catherine Zeta Jones. She is in love with someone she knows she shouldn't be in love with - bit of a self-destructive streak in her. At the same time, she is ultra-romantic. Quite a few women are both romantic and self-destructive when it comes to relationships. They are guided by the heart rather than the brain.
If you are looking for a plot, don't. Its not important. Just see how the main character tries to make his life as well as the others around him better.
Quite frankly, after reaching a stage where I work from 9 to 6, return home to sit down with my kid's studies by the end of which time I am already feeling like a zombie, watching a three hour Hindi movie is like a punishment. I feel like screaming when yet another song starts just for the heck of showing off the heroine's figure and more recently the hero's as well (especially if it stars Salman Khan). Watching movies like The Terminal is relaxing and uplifting.
