Thanks to all the above who have genuinely commented and to the others who have read and rated genuinely. To the others who keep up appearances: What can I say ? My last para in some way has come to play. Let me add some more : Yes, Indian woman are emotional - that is an emotion which ma...kes us distinct from men. If someone is NOT available for flirting or chats or draws a line of decorum - and that is considered emotional and arrogant and that reasoning poor, SO BE IT. Hey, all that had to be done was to ask me to stop writing revs and me would have gladly appreciated the honesty. I really do not know what is going on, for neither do I have time nor patience for petty politiking or aiming for the moon competition , this was just a forum for like-minded intellectuals to express and time and again there is too much importance given to unneccessary things. Still, I would like to thank the MS-ians who have wholeheartedly read, rated and commented on my revs. But, writing on this forum is no longer an option for me and maybe am doing exactly what this person/persons want - but looking at it in a positive way there is no harm in trying to improve. Signing Off Regards, RiyaRead More

Very nice revvu and would be helpful to all aspirants who may want to come to study or who want to go back to school at some point of time. Heard that GA's are the best jobs one can get and esp. if one gets the undergrad. admin work , it would be very lucky and well-paid too. Some of them have giv...en private tuitions by advertising in the campus.. Congrats on becoming a star writer , me too noticed after Rjois's comment.. :-)))RiyaRead More

A very well written rev, doing justice to the book. Me too can read it numerous times. Like the optimism this book puts forth and the sentences all part of the story but so heavy on meaning. :-)))Riya

chilled_out : Thanks for your comments Kalyani : Hopefully there are CD's/DVD's out there of Malgudi, it would be a great buy. Thanks for commenting. Priyanka : Yes, the old charm is still there in villages and some towns and even in some cities - especially the old localities or colonies.In...dianness is what makes up the charm. Thanks for the comments Prasad: That was a never heard quote and a great one.. time is always a factor hence we are unable to appreciate the small things. Yes, 'ice-krot' heard it maybe when I was seven and gradually the ice-cream vendors declined - it was more vadilal and dinshaws !!Thanks for the comments. :-)))RiyaRead More

Your rev was too good. Didn't know this one exists, why did Jagjit ji have to do this - technically remixes? His original ghazals have such soul in them. Just yest. we were discussing how it would sound if someone remixed the ghazals esp. of 'bade ghulam ali'.. :-)))Riya

Being your first review and especially a book revvu at that, this review conveys the jist of what the book is about and you have done a good job. Although me have not read this one. Have read the 'Short stories of Leo Tolstoy', these stories make an impression , once again they were a part of our cu...rriculum. Keep writing :-)))RiyaRead More

Intense : Thanks for the generous comments. Damo : Life does have to change , it can never be transient. But, the nostalgia of early childhood hits me especially when I look around and find changes in people, relationships and myself. Thanks Rama : When I saw the serial, me too believed it exi...sted, only later did I realize the fact. R u telling me its Basavangudi and Malleshwaram -- spent almost 2 years at this place , no wonder the relating to it..more Basavangudi me thinks. Thanks Read More

To all dear MS'ians who have read, rated and commented: Thanks much. It made my day to read your comments and the pleasure is all mine. Arun : Can imagine how it feels reading a rev sipping first cup of day , a luxury for me. Thanks for your kind words. Lyla : Please read works of Shri.RKN wh...enever you get a chance, its not as much about old or new , its more about the cultural essence captured. Thanks Davie : Yes Davie, about the neighbour thing me too hesitate. Thanks Amjad: The serial was great too and all of Shri.RKN's works are. Thanks Vicki-ji : Pls. translate the first two lines, understood approximately.Well, you write pretty well and am but a novice revvu writer. Thanks RJ :Did I make u so senti, well me felt that way while writing. Shankar Nag did such a great job in capturing 'Malgudi', wow! can watch this one anyday.Shri. RKN was very influenced by Karnataka when he made up Malgudi. Didn't know about 'Agumbe' - that place needs a visit . Thanks Preran. Thanks for liking the revvu and appreciating the effort. Pras : Long time no comment.. didn't you have this book as a part of curriculum? we did.Do read the book when u get a chance . Thanks Vishal : Gosh, you r making me embarrased with your lavish praise. Tolstoy is another writer who has the humane element in his writing, couldn't think of any other. Will read ur rev. Thanks Chail : Thanks so much for your comments. Bhavana : Yes, me too liked the serial and being so far away can make ado with reading Shri. RKN's books.Do they have re-runs of this serial? Thanks Swan : Haan as soon as the name Malgudi comes to mind the music 'taana na taana na na naa ~~' comes to mind and swami is such a naughty lil prankster. Thanks Karan : You are so right about the minds.. its the thinking or mindset which charts life aint it.. and totally agree that behind these exteriors there lies the simplicity and charm of Malgudi which comes to the fore now and then. Last word ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Writing this review has been nostalgic especially since these nuances of life are so missing in today's modernity and monotony. Sometimes I wonder why the old world charm is missing, we hesitate to greet our neighbor out of fear coz you never know!, we go through various em...otions of joy and sorrow as another job to be completed, we talk about being emancipated yet hide behind caste and regional views , we believe in hearsay and go about propagating a classic, we judge people without knowing the whole truth .. on the humorous side, the delicious culinary words brinjal and dhal are replaced by eggplant and lentil soup, the middle class is no longer in the middle it has three lanes –upper, middle and lower. Indian corn roasted on charcoal by bare hands on a cart spiced with salted lemon and eaten with élan gets replaced by the more hip 'corn on the cob' prepared with cooking gloves. Bicycles the primary transport of yore almost absent, riding and falling was such fun.. fast forward -------- zooming ahead , whipping past all and sundry to win the race courtesy faster modes of transport. Can't we slow down a little bit ?? Time to wake up , its 2004 one cannot expect a 1982 or a 1935. Thanks for reading.. -:))) RiyaRead More
