Aww..sorry for that mate! Not sure if it'll be worth it trading in the Era for Magna as you will incur lots of depreciation but good luck! Yes Magna is really worth it for the extra features it is loaded with, but I see a lot of Era drivers around as it is quite cheaper and closer to the Santro i...n terms of price so lots of potential Santro buyers shift up to i10 Era - Magna gets a bit steep for them.Read More

Right ashsinha, i10 Era has all these minor irritants which are best avoided by going for the Magna. But the 3 features you wanted are already available in the Magna so why were you looking for them as after-fitments? Could have gone for the Magna straight away. The latter has other useful additions... as well, such as central locking and improved/better looking swing mirrors.Read More

I have been driving my i10 for the last 6 months. Initially the gear shift did feel a bit hard in the 1st/ 2nd gear, but soon it was pretty ok and butter smooth and it's still getting better as I drive more and more - it's just the run-in period that leads to the sticky feeling. This is true of all ...new cars until the parts bed-in properly, but feels slightly different for the i10 as the gear shift is cable-operated rather than directly mated to the gears in the gear box. To me the reason why some of you guys are having trouble with the gears is a slightly mis-adjusted cable, and is a fairly simple procedure at the workshop. However, it still remains the fact that this IS a problem and should have been rectified at the factory end before delivery. However, this review does not talk about the car but only about a specific problem which is minor and can be rectified quickly. That should not mean that one can totally rubbish the car and overshadow all its other strengths.Read More

Going by the observations of a few fellows here, let's just dump all our santros, swifts, citys, i10s and other modern cars into the gutter and get back to our good old 'steel-clad' Padminis and Ambassadors, which have the 'metal' to them!! God!!

Every car is made for a specific purpose - the i10 is targeted at the city commuter and thus has a slightly taller 3rd gear for better driveability. In the city, you can keep driving the car in this gear most of the time without the need for frequent shifting.

Agree with Hanumant. You would notice that recently there are quite a few i10s on Delhi roads - they have started picking up really well now that 'Indian mindset buyers' have realised that it's a good car and even their 'neighbour has bought it'! I spot so many i10s in and around Delhi these days... - mostly Era's but a few Magna's as well (largely due to the price differential).Read More

I see a discordance in your point enidhi...if you trust the qualities of the vehicle getting it that recognition, how can it be 'misleading'? In fact, then it is 'leading' people to but the best! Anyway - above everything, it's just advertising. Every company will try and sell its products and u...se advertising to do so. If advertising is helping it sell more, bingo! its advertising professionals have well done!! And which company doesnt do it? Words may differ but the intended meaning is always the same: my product is the best. So that's it...Read More

Yes problem with gearshift seems to be coming up to often here. My guess is that this is due to the cable-operated gearshift and minor adjustment should do the trick. My problem is engaging 1st gear from standstill rather than 1st to 2nd. A second reason could be just that the car is new and once th...e parts and gears bed-in, it should be smoother. Short first gear ratio is for better pick-up and power, and though may be a pain sometimes, is an advantage overall.Read More

Bang on review, Kat. Highlights the strengths of the i10 perfectly - and the statement about Santro lovers/ users was really well targeted!! The criticisms of i10 were objectively stated too, great! Enjoy your i10 Magna. Cheers, Rajiv

ajeya, I just saw a black i10 today...so it's there...however, it's too much maintaining a black car... salhaj, 175/60/R13 tyres should not be a problem. You may compromise a little bit on fuel efficiency but will get better grip and looks. The stock tyres do look skinny. nidhi, both the cars ...are good and have their own strengths and weaknesses - it's more of a personal choice and brand preference. You would come across these in many other reviews. I would rate i10 as 9/10, and Swift 8/10, but am sure there'll be many who will rate them the other way round. Read More

It's very very simply a convention folks, and I wonder why so much debate is going on about such a trivial matter!! It's a global convention to give COTY awards at the start of each year, to cars launched and sold in the previous year (criteria and dates are different for different awards). S...o if you are fearing your favourite brand of car is getting launched soon and will lose out on getting COTY 2008 because the i10 has already got it, take heart!! It may get the COTY for 2009, of course at the start of 2009!! The trend is the same in a number of other industries - fashion, film, books, etc. Hope this helps to answer your question enidhi and others...Read More

Hyundai should have a 'paisa vasool' feeling seeing that their brand ambassador has managed to evoke such a positive response!! Anyway how much of a difference did you find between the Santro and the i10 Priyank?? Your ratings do not match with your praises for the car in your review. And wh...ere did you get the price list from, boy? Even the base model D-Lite starts at 3.41 lakhs in Delhi so please tell us where can you get an i10 for 2.89 lakhs? I'll sure buy 3 more i10s if they give it to me for that price!! Car of the Year 2008 is just a convention!! Just like you have the budget for year 2008-09 presented in Feb 2008!! So no surprises... yes probably you need to visit Hyundai for this. Modern cars are able to take a very wide rev range in any specific gear (from when the car is stuttering to when it begins to whine!), but the ideal RPM range (works in normal operating conditions) is from about 1500-2200 rpm.

Classic case of rivalry between i10 and Santro owners!! Anyway, in my experience, the steering of the i10 is far smoother than that of the Santro. Seating position and ergonomics are also far improved. I have driven the i10 for hundreds f km at a stretch and the drive is much less taxing than tha...t in a Santro, primarily because cruising speeds for i10 are higher and NVH levels are much lower. You can easily do 100kmph and the car feels rock solid and stable. Quite a relief over the Santro! And Gajanan, as for the Magna lacking rear 'neck support' in the rear seats, this is not true. In fact, they are also adjustable at the rear. And at both front and rear, these are not 'neck supports' but 'head restraints' (for all cars) - they are less for comfort and more for safety; they work to prevent a whiplash injury in the event of an accident. I have owned a Santro Xing for 3 years and am now driving an i10 - and can vouch the latter is a much improved and 'next-gen' car than the former! Read More

Yes the amount of fuel is about 4-5 litres. About headlights, I have not found them to be inadequate at all. What I suspect here is that your headlight settings were set at the lowest setting (Position 3) even when there was not much load towards the back of the car. Set them at the highest (Posi...tion 1) and see if it makes any difference for you.Read More

Oops!! What nightmares guys are facing with Hyundai and their i10s!! Will someone at Hyundai please take note? I agree with the point that customer service at some dealers may be bad, but not sure if Maruti is any better than Hyundai on that count. My guess is: generally you'll find much better ...service at company-owned service points than at privately owned ones. I once got my Santro serviced at Deep Hyundai (Delhi) and it was not a very good experience. Bu all my other services were at Hyundai Motor Plaza (co-owned), and it has always been fabulous. Well trained staff, quick and satisfactory resolution of problems, and very well-equipped and laid out premises. You also have the option of taking to their Service Manager at the slightest hint of gaps in service if any. You do feel that they believe in 'Customer is King' (not sure anyone treats them as God - except if you are buying a Rolls or a Jag...) So I would suggest Swapnesh to approach Hyundai senior management and am sure it'll help. Next, Swift-lovers like Spike will always prefer that to the i10, but I agree with him on waiting a few months before buying a new product as even if the company may have done a great job, the market doesnt get ready that quick. I had a recent bad experience of getting the music system fitted in my i10, at an accessory shop in the market (Kabir Shoppe, Nehru Place). It took them an entire day, and even then the fitting was not done very neatly. I got a 2DIN system only thinking it'll look better in the space provided, but alas, that was not to be! The system juts out slightly, and there is some space left all around in the socket provided for the system. Plus, noone (I think) has been able to fit a gear lock perfectly in an i10. Hope all this gets resolved soon...Read More
