The spare wheel (''stepney'') is an old concept not yet extinct in India. With modern tubeless tyres, a spare wheel is a totally useless appendage that adds to (i) vehicle cost and (ii) fuel cost due to your having to carry a weight for the lifetime of the car. I suggest that you sell the spare... wheel for whatever you can get for and utilize the additional boot space whenever you may require. I have never used my ''stepney'' for the last 5 years and neither have I seen any tubeless tyre vehicle changing tyres in the middle of the road. VW did the wise thing by keeping the costs down to barest minimum by designing a sensible Vento.Read More

Can't understand if it's a review of Tata Sky or of your dad or of Bravia.

What about billing? What about DNS servers? Where are the details? Incidentally, if you're technically oriented, you can read the white paper on ADSL2+ technologies available for download at http://www.dslprime.com/a/adsl21.pdf. To a common man or woman, TriBand means that three ('Tri') additional s...ervices are carried over the plain old telephone system. These three services are: fast internet data access, IPTV and VoIP telephony at different bands ('Band'). In which part of the universe do you get 'unlimited downloads' for the equivalent of what MTNL charges? Unless, of course, you are used to misusing your office network!Read More

'netbhoot' has just vented his frustration or anger over MTNL, but has not justified enough.

Enjoyed reading your review, Kris. Clearly, you've fallen in love! Baleno is for connoisseurs like you. This car is a classic gem. Unfortunately, the current generation values popular specs over enduring. Baleno is a horse of battle as much as it is a horse for ballet. I too am a proud owner for two... years... and my love for this beauty has only increased with age... Happy driving! -PrabhakarRead More

Sudhir, How can you disown this classic because Maruti (is reported to) does? The 'new' Baleno (if at all Maruti calls its SX4 as one) is a totally different breed. In any case, sacrificing a Baleno for a City is like giving up a Lippizzaner for a Hanoverian... Please don't!

Chaitanya, Your review is wonderful. This car reflects the personality of the owner... Obviously you're a no-nonsense, no-hype person yourself. After a good deal of research, I decided in favour of Baleno VXi about 1½ years back from Vitesse and I haven't regretted one moment till date. The pe...rformance seems to be getting better with age. I have showered my 'horse of battle and horse of ballet' with top-of-the-line enhancements using the discount (Rs 60,000) that Vitesse gave me. I've driven every vehicle in its class right upto Skoda Octavia RS... None match the handling and ride quality that Baleno gives. I keep insisting that it's the best driver's car available in India, but my family swears that it's the best passenger car ever. (Sigh) It's a pity Maruti has discontinued this model (perhaps there aren't any more 'no-nonsense, no-hype' Indians around)... but for sure, my Baleno is my Passelande...!Read More

If the language (spellings included) used by VIJITH's 'review' is any indication of his driving style, I'm impressed by Baleno's quality since only the car's steering is shaking. Reading this 'review' makes my entire body shake...!

Hey Bhoj, Your review is excellently written in simple, lucid style. I found it very useful. My daughter and I have SE K300i models so I bought a DCU-11 USB data cable (price: Rs 1,290) to download pictures, videos and music to our home PC. Alas, I could not make it work with SE's File Manager (d...ownloaded the humongous 34 MB file). What a shame, SE does not provide any warranty or support on any of its accessories, so I was left to fend for myself. What's worse, SE has even removed DCU-11 from their officially recommended accessories' list for K300i, at their website. After trying every possible tweak for months on end, I almost came to the point of flinging the cable out of the window when I came across your review yesterday and decided to give FMA a try. I downloaded the 2.1.1.102 Beta 3 version and, voilà! both our K300i phones not only got detected correctly, but we could download and upload pics, videos and sounds flawlessly! We went on to experiment with this magic piece of software (open source too!). Wow! what a discovery!! Thanks a lot for your review. Clearly, FMA and your review have created a HUGE value for me! Keep it up!! -PrabhakarRead More

I like your updates, properly dated, software versions style! Reviews are generally very positive or very negative to start with, but honest documentation of experience as you go along is what adds true value to a review! Keep it up!!

Congrats on your new purchase... Your experience with Baleno will progressively get better! Your 'Speedometer cable disconnection' and 'pinhole in stepney' point to only one suspicion... You have been taken for a ride by your dealer who must have disconnected the cable and taken your 'new' baby f...or a free ride (Can't believe Sai can even fool the devil himself!). Don't waste even a moment... Put your experience down in writing to the dealer and have him/her acknowledge. Then send the acknowledgement to Maruti and demand a compensation for having sold you a 'used' car...Read More

Thanks, Arun, for your comments on my review... and wishing you tortuous days ahead till Johnny bride comes home! Well, if review on my Baleno VXi (August version) has made you sit up, wait till you experience the 'new' Baleno VXi (introduced in October)-- it'll make you stand up! The 'new' Ba...leno VXi has climate control (auto A/C temperature control), not available in any car upto Toyota Corolla. Baleno's A/C cools so quickly, a CC A/C does wonders to comfort levels. Yes, I did upgrade to 175/70R13, but you will not need to since the 'new' one comes standard with 185/70R14! I am happy with the factory-fitted Kenwood system, but you will be delighted to know that the 'new' version has factory-fitted MP3 system also added! LXi vs VXi is another story, but my personal quirk is to always choose the highest version of a model. LXi is as good as VXi in performance, but sans some bells and whistles. Definitely, it's VFM and you won't lose anything significant! Go for it!!Read More

Hey cerk, Nice, detailed review... Thanks! Two Questions... (a) What do you mean turning better than a Zen? Zen has a 4.9m turning radius and Optra has 5.2m. (b) A friend complained (during Mumbai's infamous 26/7) that Optra has a low air intake manifold, hence the engine oil gets contamina...ted with water even in mild flood situations. What's your experience? Cheers... -PrabhakarRead More
