Hi all,
Its nice to see broadband catching speed in mumbai ...i m using this connection since april 2005 & I have to admit that its really worth....its economical & fast....but u have to know few things in order to use this facility without interruption....
Always switch off modem when not required....its good practice....
Always chech ur balance at mumbai.mtnl.net.in to avoid huge bill......make a practice to check it every day.....
To avoid hanging of pc due to virus.....use good anti virus softwares.....update them regularly.....also use good software firewall.....window xp comes with inbuilt firewall but....software firewall always helpful....
U can use ur Router(MTNL modem) as Hardware firewall......to configure this.....go to router interface by typing 192.168.1.1....after u login....click advanced ..& click firewall....under heading service filtering, click all boxes.......this will enable ur firewalll.....then click green button ''Apply'' at bottom......then click Tools & then System....click, save & reboot....this will save ur setting........dont temper this setting again.......
Surf freely with peace of mind....with this setting..... If u dont know all this.......dont do it......
This setting is for Dlink 502 modem.....U can check broadband speed at mtnl website or sites like....''thespeedtest.com''...& many more...
Splitter must be placed just after mtnl line enters our house....then only.....phone line must be splited....otherwise we will get temperory disconnection when phone rings.....if this is not possible...leave it.....it doesnt make that much difference ....
