Once in a while, we get a tamil movie where the production crew genuinely try to deliver without the worry of it being a commercial success get in the way. I thought this was one of them, even though, it is a remake of the English Movie "I am Sam". I have only read the summary of the original an...Read more

We have also been to this place several times. But have not tried the salad at all... maybe next time....though your review is 4 yrs old..hopefully, they are still giving the same stuff that you liked so much! :) I was a bit surprised at the very negative reviews in the start... my visits have been... over last 3-4 years and generally we have liked the pizza and pasta which we order usually. The pizza is different from the chain shops and I felt less greasy.. Read More

Tilak, you touched on all the positive points but not Avatars weaker points...ie its plot line. That is where the criticism is.. nothing new is presented by the producers in spite of the millions spent! So, if you remove the bells and whistles... you have very little that is special in the movie, in...cluding the acting.Read More

Good review. I think you hit it on the head..with the comment '..spent so much on the special effects but little on the story line...' That is Avatars problem in a nutshell. Weak story line.. Without the alien stuff..the story is similar to any one of numerous indian movies... The way the movie e...nded though...I feel we have a Avatar2 on the way.. :)Read More

Good review. Saw the movie today in 2D only... agree with all your points. Simple story made special with effects and graphics. For me the anti-war sentiment espoused by the plot was lost somewhat when the Nevi's also chose to fight in ruthless fashion in the end...to stop the invaders.. I suppose d...efense is always acceptable...however...where is the end then? Its a typical tamil/hindi/(any local language) hero fighting the bad guys ending. 3/5 stars rating is correct also.. if only for the effects..you could push it to 3.5 or 4 at the most! :)Read More

Mayank, yes, I agree India has to retain its openness. Its not just countries but as individuals also we need to have that ability to accept criticisms as well as praise. If you dont really care about the India bashing then you should enjoy the book as its written in an unique style.

Good review. You didnt let your utter distaste for the book get in the way of pointing out the few positive things about it. :) Dark fact #5 is right on. Mr Adigas biases and thoughts are related via Balram which sometimes clashes with the character that he is made out to be in the story.

I am keeping a promise to myself to write a mouthshut review of this book when I read it almost 3 months back. So please pardon me if I gloss over the facts. The review is kept at a high level and I wont get much into the plot itself. There are many more reviews which do that. I borrowed this...Read more

Nice review. Good to read some of the dialogues again. I also watch it everytime a movie channel shows it. Its one of my all-time favourite movies. One correction. I dont think code red was for extra judicial killing in the marine corp. I think it was a method to punish or rag soldiers who were not... towing the company line. Col Jessop does not understand or does not want to believe that there are also weak people or sick people who are unable to stand the rigours of Marine training and want out. He feels they are cowards and with the right push will come around. For that william santiago is given the Code Red which due to his heart condition turns fatal. One memorable quote from Dawson not included in your review was: when his co-accused asks him why they were discharged dishonourably even though they followed orders only. Dawsaon, says that its because they were trained to protect the weak and they failed in that. The underlying message being they should have stood upto authority when ordered to enforce code red on santiago who they knew was really sick. That is orders are not always correct!Read More
