Hallo chrisbo49! Thanks for such a good review. I have a few queries. How much is the fuel efficiency? Did you bothered to change the head lamp by a 55/55 W halogen? Is the stock headlamp enough to illuminate the road ahead? Do, the sprag clutch got replaced once? Do you bother to replace the skinny... tyre with thicker one, such as 3.50 by 19'? Lastly, did you ever fell down from the bike while cornering? Thanks in advance.Read More

It is a pleasure to learn that you faced no problem but I just wonder that you did not faced any teething problem and RE products are supposed to give. I am inquisitive to know the present status of your bike. How many kilometers on odo?

Thanks for writing such a detailed review. I have used Electra 5s with caste iron engine for 52,000 km and I have made many long trips. I had to sell the bike three years ago as it developed a problem with oil distribution at the connecting rod and slip ring attachment. During my ownership period, I... learnt many jobs related to physical maintenance and since I was very particular about it, the bike never gave any problem in the long trips. Recently, I had the urge to purchase a bike from RE stable and particularly a 500 cc engine, as I never experienced that kind of torque. After reading your review, I am concerned whether to go for RE bikes or not. I particularly liked the STD 500 which comes with a heavy crank and 33 mm CV carburrator. Unfortunately, it is not available at the region where I stay. So, I am considering a fuel injected version. RE offers a number of bikes with 500 cc presently. The sad thing is that the website do not show the ex-showroom price. Also, the website do not give any indication whether the particular model is available in India or not. Now the trouble with fuel injector is, I can not control it. At most, I can read its memory, by using EBD scanner. Now, EBD scanner comes with two version, namely, I and II. EBD II protocol is used in all cars. This protocol is adopted from 1996 onwards. On the other hand, EBD I protocol belongs to pre-1996 era. The owner's manual of all these 500 cc bikes from RE, do not reveal whether EBD I or II is used for ECU mapping. Also, how much is the reliability of the sensor? Can I trust its functionality blindly when I am using it in a very harsh weather? Suppose, one of the sensor fails, can I still operate the bike and bring it to the authorized garage? Do all authorized service center of RE have skilled mechanics to take care of fuel injected UCE engines? These are the questions that haunt me and so my heart is not getting any green signal.Read More

Which filter are you talking about? Fuel filter/engine oil filter/cabin air filter?

So, did you got your car back with the AC fixed or is it still with the dealers? When did you purchased the car and how many kilometers had it covered? Happy Motoring.

The old cast irons were better than the present NO GASKET aluminium cylinder engines. Once upon a time I was an ardent fan of RE bikes and so did a lot of study and gathered many skills to work on the bike. After that only purchased an Electra 5s Cast iron. Rode it for 52000 km and then it gave up b...ecause of engine bearing problem. The present set of bikes do not use gasket under the covers of right and left side of the engine. Leakage primarily happen because of the lack of gasket.Read More

I am little bit skeptical about one statement that you have made in your review:......tested the maximum speed (100 kmph). Even at that speed, the bullet goes so smoothly, No vibration,....... My electra 5s vibrates a lot as soon as it crosses 80 kph mark. Lastly, it is not a good idea to open ...the throttle at 4000 km. It should be runned in 'properly'. To understand that 'properly', please visit the website: http://www.cybersteering.com/cruise/feature/bullet/running.html. Rest is your choice.Read More

It is a good review. I just want to add my own views on it. In the last paragraph you have mentioned about a habit of sensible bulleteers. In my case, when I reach the next red signal, I let the bike decelerate by road to tyre friction and only keep on chaning gears as the speed reduces down. When I... get close to the red signal, I just bring the gear to neutral and then very gently brake.....Bullet is a bike for leisure driving. An aggressive driving style is an indicator of lack of peace of mind of the biker.Read More
