I have come across so many SMSs on MS which say "This TV Commercial is great, cute and interesting."

You watch television. You see commercials. You may actually pay attention to some and do not remember others. But do you really know what you're looking at? If your typical reaction to a commercial you like is "it's cute", know what to look for in a commercial and how to evaluate it. Being an Advertising Professional myself, I follow a few points to

evaluate a TV Commercial.

Commercials are created for a reason and it's not always obvious what they're trying to communicate and to whom. Think hard about the commercial you are watching and evaluate it in several ways according to the following:

1) Decide Who the Target is

Advertisers talk a different way to teens than they do to seniors. Think about who uses the product or service being advertised.

2) Ask Yourself: What is the Main Idea?

The most effective commercials center around one main idea. It's hard to grasp many ideas at once especially if they're thrown at you in 30 seconds. Think about someone throwing you five tennis balls all at once. How many could you catch?

3) Do You Think the Commercial Will Connect with the Target?

Many people, and even clients, evaluate commercials on how they appeal to themselves. Remember that you may not be the target of the commercial. Who is the target and do you think the message will connect with them?

4) What Does Your Gut Tell You?

Often, first reactions are the best. Try to capture your first impression from a commercial after you first saw it. Then apply the other analytical criteria given you.

and ultimately keep watching and practicing.

the famous huth ad for example, watch it and evaluate it.
