Last month while coming back from morning walk, I was in deep thoughts. Suddenly something hit my leg from behind. No hurt, no pain yet surprised, I looked back and found this 5 year old cute kid looking at me and smiling. Probably he could not control the speed of his bicycle on the slop of footpath and hit my leg. I looked at his innocent smile and asked what happened? He replied “uncle I was trying to cross the small pothole on the footpath”.

I looked back on the footpath and there was this small pothole filled with water. The pothole was not in the middle of footpath. I asked the kid “Dude, The footpath was clear, pothole is on the edge of footpath, why did you put the tire in the pothole? He laughed and said “I love the water splash”

It brought a smile on my face and I thought why we become less adventurous as we grow old? A kid is exploring and is ready for the jerk & pain which he may get as a result of putting the bicycle in the pothole but what he will get out of it is the joy of seeing the water splash.

I went ahead and entered my society. Took my daughter to the garden where she plays. One of the kid was playing with a rubber ball and what he was doing was throwing the ball on ground and checking the bounce. Harder he hit the ball on ground higher the ball went up in the air.

Suddenly I started relating things and the picture was clear in front of me.

Very few know that due to some unavoidable and unforeseen reasons I suffered a huge loss ( in lakhs ) in business. The loss was so big that it wiped my entire savings of last 5 years. But the business is running well and there is nothing to worry as the loss will be covered soon. Initially I felt disappointed and thought “lene ke dene pagd gaye”.

Nuksaan ho gaya. These two kids taught me two important lessons of life.

One: Don’t fear the loss & pain, be adventurous, the experience will be unique. Learning will be unique. May be next time things will be positive.

Two: To go up in life, at least once you have to hit the ground hard. Harder you fall higher you will go up in life just like the rubber ball. In spite of the fall it bounces back.

Also this rubber ball teaches you one more things - be flexible, it will help you bounce back. It can roll and reach anywhere.

I am sure things will be much better very soon. After all I am more experienced now.

I am learning to become like a rubber ball.
