Visit to Guhantara - The Cave Resorts

By: mysticalmalli | Posted Aug 23, 2011 | General | 5400 Views

I actually meant to post this as a review for Guhantara Cave Resorts, Kanakapura Road, but since this was not listed in the categories available, I'm posting this as a diary.

It was one of those weekends when we decided to set off on a one-day picnic somewhere, not too far from Bangalore city. On surfing the net for possible options, we came across the place GUhantara, located in Kanakapura Road. The pictures looked good and none of us had been there before, and so we finalized that place.

We were a small group – just 4 of us. Being a Saturday, it was a nice ride, free from the traffic that we normally encounter on weekdays. We reached there at around 11 in the morning and were greeted to a reception desk located in a cave-like setting. The registration process was very smooth and quick and we were led into an underground cave tunnel, just like the ones we see in movies – dark and small. The tunnel led into a small temple having a Shiv Ling and thereafter, into a huge auditorium, with a waterfall towards the end. It looked beautiful. We were offered a welcome drink and one of the staff briefed us on the various activities available within the resort.

We decided to start with the outdoor activities first and decided to try an activity called the ‘Zorba Ball’. 2 people are strapped inside a huge ball, which is then rolled on the grass. It was a good, bumpy experience and reminded me of a couple of rides available in theme parks! Next, we went on the other adventure sports- such as rope walking, rock climbing, etc. which were interesting, though they were on a small scale. Apart from these, we also tried our hands at archery and quad biking riding across rough terrains. There are a lot of other activities also, such as paint ball, volleyball, cricket, badminton, carrom, table tennis, billiards, horse riding and the likes and so people can opt for those games which interest them.

Lunch was served at 1 in the auditorium where a couple of people were trying their hands at Karoake. The lunch was a simple spread, but quite tasty. Of course, we were all quite hungry too after indulging in so many outdoor activities. By then, it was time for the rain dance. The dining area itself converts itself into a rain dance floor at 2.30 p.m, once the lunch tables are wound up. We grooved to the beats for a while, but it was not such a great experience considering it was crowded. We then had a brain wave and decided to head to the swimming pool overlooking the dance floor. This turned out to be a great idea and we had an amazing time there, swimming as well as dancing to the beats of the DJ playing around. The changing rooms are a little inadequate, in comparison to the large numbers of people visiting the resort.

After freshening up, we went for tea and snacks served in the volleyball court and thereafter, went cycling for a while, before we headed back home. Overall, it was a good fun-filled day, spent with the company of loved ones and a refreshing atmosphere.
