Say NO to crackers!!

It’s Diwali time! A time for fun and celebration. There are so many ways by which one can celebrate Diwali.

  1. For the religiously inclined, a prayer at home is normally accompanied with a visit to the nearby temple to seek the blessings of the divine.

  2. Others revel in the company of friends and family to have a good time and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

  3. Indulge in retail therapy and shop for clothes and sweets, to your heart’s contents without feeling guilty about it!

  4. Cuddle up on the sofa and watch a movie playing on TV. Or why not catch up on the reruns of your favourite tele serial?

  5. The lazy ones can snuggle up in bed and just lie around doing nothing.

  6. Try out a new restaurant and pamper your taste buds and better still, explore your culinary skills and dish out a new preparation for the festival!

  7. Lighting up lamps around the house is also a great activity, in my opinion. It feels good to see your house so nice and decked up :). It kind of adds to the festive spirit.

  8. Go out and catch the latest movie releases in the nearest multiplex. (I happened to see RA-One last night..anyway, the less I talk about it, the better :P)

I can go on and on… I mean, when there are so many things one can do on Diwal(or any festival for that matter), why waste hard earned money on buying noise and pollution???

Just think of your loyal pet dog, who is probably one of the only creatures on the planet who loves you more than it loves itself. The hearing power of a dog is substantially higher than that of humans. Statistics states that humans can pick up an average of 20,000 acoustic vibrations per second (kHz), whereas a dog is able to perceive between 40,000 and 100,000 vibrations. Is your one hour of fun worth the pain and fear that your dog undergoes when you burst firecrackers? Birds and insects too are silent victims. Also, what about the elderly uncle next door who’s trying to get some sleep or the poor little baby sleeping in the next room? Firecrackers are no pleasure to them too. Add to it those fumes which cause several allergies to even healthy people, like you and me. Newspapers are full of articles of children who have lost their eyesight due to negligence in bursting crackers.

Nature is God’s gift to us. And we have no right to abuse it. Of course, as human beings, abusing other people’s sentiments, feelings and opinions is arguably an inherent nature to human beings. Avoiding the abuse of nature through refraining from bursting of crackers is comparatively simpler, don’t you think? So, let’s all spread the word and make the world a better place to live in. GO GREEN & SAY NO TO CRACKERS!!
