“OK”…I said to myself….” I will make a song”. Now that was interesting thing to do on lazy afternoon. I sat down with my acoustic and thought “Ok, now what kind of song I would love to make”. Answer was bluntly “I don’t know…” or “jeez..I can’t think of one”.James Hetfield of Metallica was having beers after beers in a hotel when the band was on tour, he was talking on a phone to a friend with the other free hand strumming the guitar. He just happen to play a nice lick (small piece of notes played on guitar), he found it so amazing that he slammed the phone, gulped whole beer and sat down embellishing piece of music he just played. In no time, “Nothing else Matters” song was composed, which is one of top rock ballads of all time!
One of most beautiful thing about playing music is unpredictability. You never know when you will bump up with some beautiful music. As I sat down, I just could not come up with something which is good to ears. You know what pieces fit together but its like “hmmm…Nah, this is not the song which I would like to compose!” and then some day when you come from office strum your guitar with blank thoughts and stoic face you come up with something incredible music. You get on your toes, you start analyzing, you bring the pieces together. “Ok, maybe this…nah…it should sound more darker..so lets add a minor…hmm…nah…sounds so predictable..let me add a 7th or 9th”. Hours pass by …you don’t even have a glass of water, you are so much into it. This very moment has a term which I don’t remember but at this moment your mind, body and soul are totally concentrating on ONE task. That is an incredible and astonishing part which a man discovers sometimes. Later when you are almost done…you smile; there is a sense of happiness within you because you have created something which you can proudly say is yours.
You compose a song or write a poem or may be write a small DP like this …I mean anything…There is a mesmerizing and magical feeling of creating something of your own. You never know when it happens but it happens. It happens maybe when you are in the happiest state of mind or also may be when you are going through the low stages of your life. Anytime! But you do not know when. There are some surprise gifts for you which comes surprising from yourself! I believe everyone subconsciously has a vision (or perhaps we can call it a dream). With every step you make you are subconsciously walking towards that dream. Your mind secretly analyzes things, put pieces in mind and someday everything comes out like a surprise gift and you exclaim “I can’t believe I created something like that”.It might not appeal to others but it was your dream, your vision. It was something which you hoped you could create or make it someday and you do.
