Hi Durgaprasadca, Thank you for the kind words and goot to know you have liked the review. As for the second part of it,well, its a 'No' is what I believe. The Esteem was discontinued way back in 2006 and though there are very well-maintained examples going for a song ( like a 2005 Vxi in Calcutta...,costs about INR 1.70L),I would rather suggest to go for a car which is in production. Sales/Service/Spares are all available from Maruti, but the selling the used car after 5-6 years will possibly be a problem. There are other new cars now, which you can pick up,like the Swift DZire(nice actually, though the rear looks odd),the Renault Logan, the Fiesta etc. Thanks once again, Best wishes, Anish Read More

Hi Johnshira, Great to know you have liked my review. You have a 5-door Gypsy?Or you modified the regular 3-door to a 5-door? On a different note,in 1991 I had travelled to Shillong from Guwahati in a soft-top Maruti Gypsy and that is still one of my most memorable journeys! Yeah the interiors suc...k,kind of.They should redesign the dash and add some modern bits.Maybe they need to bring out a proper civilian version with the basic creature comforts and relaunch it. The one that they sell even now hails from the '80s. Thank you, Anish Kolkata/BangaloreRead More

Iam just stunned by the honesty which is demonstrated in the entire write-up.I was actually thinking of buying an used Astra in Bangalore and did inspect a few examples, but what you have highlighted here, were playing on the back of my mind too-no Aft Sales Serv and absolutely no support from GM what...soever.I saw some examples costing between INR 75K to INR 1.30K,and the owners were pretty confident that their respective cars would do another 40K kms without any problem! Wish they were this honest. Many Thanks for sharing the real picture. Regards, AnishRead More

Hello Mr.Abshishekna,Let me introduce myself first. My name is Anish and Iam from Calcutta.I have been staying in Bangalore for the last couple of years and I work for a MNC here(which has branches in Calcutta too). You know what,to be extremely honest, the initial impression wasn't that good about t...his city,as in the already-mentioned parameter like infraustructure and transport. But I feel these parameters have seen improvements. I feel this city was never really expecting the phenomenal growth that it has been through and there lies the reason for its un-preparedness to respond quickly.Never mind.It is catching up on that front. But for me the main problem was language.English is well spoken by a few.Note the expression,'well spoken'.And the service industry staff needs to be more polite and understanding. You come across as an extremely sincere citizen of the IT city, but please do not divide people as North Indians or South Indians.Lets avoid those terms. We all are Indians.Yes,we do have minor differences but let's be all ONE.Bangalore is as much as Indian metropolis as is Calcutta.I strongly object the usage of these terms (South Indians/North Indians)and convey the same to people.Let's not get angry or fight,or involve ourselves in a meaningless verbal abuse. Its high time we all behave as respected citizens of the Republic of India. Though infraustructure in Calcutta is better, the political parties are destroying the city economically. That's a different topic altogether. I have lived in a few European cities(and villages) and the first thing that strikes you is the peaceful and disciplined life they lead, and cleanliness.People stay as a big family and they are so friendly.Iam referring to Trieste(a village in Italy),Turin,Florence,Paris,Barcelona. They promote peace, safety, tradition, culture and friendliness. I would love to share few experences I had in each of these cities, but maybe if you have time. Take care friend. AnishRead More

Well..Thank you Sudeep_s26 for writing in.The seats are configured as in a normal car,in the hard top.You are right 2 bucket seats and 1 rear bench. But I dont find it comfy because it's quite a task to get into that rear bench. The possibility of seat modification is ruled out as MUL has never adde...d a third row.The Gypsy simply doesn't have the space. It is good for a single guy, basically. AC can be fitted but it has its good share in the battery power.PS is again not even available as an option,so best avoided. Regards, AnishRead More

Thank you for your comment.I have been a Gypsy fan from the very beginning.I like open top motoring and the Gypsy offers that and a lot of fun at rock bottom prices.Iam looking to purchase a Gypsy in Bangalore and my choice is a soft-top white version.May be someone will read this mail and get in to...uch with me!!! First things first. It is not 'Maruthi',but Maruti.Though it seems like a typing error, still I know you guys have a preference for putting an useless'h' in a name. Secondly,my review is NOT a copy of the Autocar article that you are referring to.Iam an Autocar India reader since the very first issue... and I don't appreciate your comment. This is a general website and you should have the courtesy of being careful about what you write on the message board. Rest assured,I will take this issue forward.Hold on till then. Thank you, AnishRead More

Thank you for your comments and great to know that you have liked my review.Iam afraid,a power steering in a Gypsy is unheard of,till now and so is of a six footer like you getting comfortable in a Gypsy!! You can buy the Scorpio instead. And Gypsys are still sold to ordinary customers like you an...d me,I have spoken to Maruti dealerships about this, but a soft top new Euro III would cost about Rs 561000,and that's quite steep.I was planning to exchange mine for a new one but the price has kept me at bay!Try the Swift/Santro/Wagon R and you wont be disappointed--you will fit in comfortably and oh,will get a power steering as well!! Your view about the Accent is spot-on.But you have not mentioned whether it is the Viva or the sedan.I guess it is the latter. This car gives you a big car feel at an affordable price. It looks elegant and has a decent interior. The ride is good too.But I guess there's a new Accent coming our way wit...hin two year. This will be the all-new 2006 Accent which will be designed on the lines of the WRC Hyundai car. Out of these two(Ikon and the Accent) I would go in for the Ford Ikon because it is more of a driver's car than a pure nonsense family sedan. The quality is also very good. The driving pleasure offered by the Ikon is unmatched. And it looks sporty in the SXi/ZXi trim. The only downside is the interior isn't constructed of the best materials. On a different note,if you are looking for an excellent ride, look no further than the Opel Corsa. But this car is pricey. It is solidly engineered and is the heaviest mid sizer. Another brilliant package is there which incorporates all the possible sought-after parameters--the Fiat Siena/Petra.But Fiat India's poor After Sales Service have adversely affected sales. So I suggest if you love driving,go for the Ikon.Next in line comes the Hyundai Accent sedan. Thank you so much for your comment. Keep reading, Best wishes, AnishRead More

Thank you for the kind words. I didn't know you were in the media industry. Then I guess you must have met several famous personalities in the Indian film industry.A lot of press materials are found on the net which even have this actor's residential address and telephone number! But let's hope ...if Aamir Khan searches himself on the net, sure he would find mouthshut and read all the reviews about him. I hope he does!He is my favourite actor. Meanwhile it feels encouraging that you have liked my review and think it is the 'ideal'!! Thanking you once again, Bye, AnishRead More

Hi, It was a very interesting topic to write on. I feel that mentally we should always be well controlled in order to prevent anger.I feel that when we get angry some other person is indirectly controlling us.How? Well,to some extent it is that person and his attitude who is making you angry and y...ou are foolish enough to express it! I think anger should always be expressed with a very good control and should never be destructive.Staying alone in a room for some time and relaxing helps to reduce it effectively. Personally when I get angry,I never let the other person know that Iam angry and try to act in a polite but firm manner speaking in a very cold tone. I never shout or abuse people when Iam angry and I feel that looks and feels much more dignified. Take care, Bye, AnishRead More

Good to know that you have liked my review.Thank you ! I agree with you that the Indigo is similar to the Esteem on the highlighted parameters but between the two I would pick the Esteem because it is a tried and tested product and the advantages offered by this sedan are almost unmatched. But the... Tata Indigo is also a very good and reliable car and I appreciate Tata's efforts. But really....I don't have any complain about the rear ends and the tail lamps of both these budget sedans. They (atleast in my opinion)are pretty good for these lower midsize cars. I agree with you that the Esteem is like an old woman with a new makeup!I thought of adding a similar statement in my review but my review would exceed the specified word limit. But still the Esteem is a good car.As for the two cars you have suggested,I would go for the Ikon because it is a very dr...iver-friendly car(the 1.6 model) and it looks great. On the other hand, the Accent gives a big car feel at an affordable price.
