There are two recalls on the Punto,, the clutch slave cylinder (on both diesel and petrol) and the Air conditioning system (only petrol ). I think this has been rectified post April 2010, so all punto owners who bought prior to that need to get this done ... I haven't gotten mine replaced yet, l...ong pending task, have been a bit lazy .. need to get it done asap .. lest my car's clutch also gets stuck :)Read More

Emotion pack has a USB (comes with the blue & me) is in the glove box. Models below emotion pack don't have one, but you can use a blaunkpt connector. Check out the link below. http://cgi.ebay.com/BLAUPUNKT-7-607-540-500-MP3-8-PIN-3-5MM-AUX-JACK-/200506471786?pt=Car_Audio_In_Dash_Receivers&has...h=item2eaf1df56a Read More

If you want the Petrol go for 1.4, it's a more advanced engine with DOHC(double overhead cam) .. 16 valves - 4 valves per cylinder. 1.2 is a SOHC with 2 valves per cylinder, affects both power and fuel economy. More on the 1.4 on this link. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1536952-post70.html

Punto 1.2 is SOHC motor with 8 valves per cylinder. If you are opting for Petrol get the 1.4 motor which is a more advanced engine with double cams and 16 valves, more powerful and more economical. The Diesels are even better.

Really sorry to hear about your plight. Can you please also mention if it's a petrol or a diesel, trim level active/emotion etc. It seems to be a petrol from the expected mileage figures mentioned. If it's a 1.2 then you would definitely feel it is not powerful enough, more so if you are accustome...d to driving lighter cars from the maruit hyundai stable. I too own a Punto, but a diesel one, (have posted my review) just completed 6500 km, imy exp has been excellent so far .... I guess you were unlucky and got a lemon.Read More

I own a Punto, completed 6000 kms, I have had very good experence with fiat ASS. I own a zen estilo as well, experience with dealer/service station has been equally good (if not better). Have had to visit service station thrice, once for the free service, the other two visits were due to my dri...ving (repairing minor scrathes dents etc). I haven’t owned a fiat vehicle before so can’t compare how things have changed, but as compared to maruti dealers my exp has been slightly better. Maruti chaps kind of take u for granted, had to wait for hours for estimate/delivery (may be it was just because of the rush they always have, afterall, really high number of maruti vehicles are plying on our roads), In case of Fiat, I have always got a special treatment, SMSes informing me of status, prompt calls from the service attendant about insurance status, good coordination between dealer and surveyor, delivery at promised times etc etc ... and also the freebies, with maruti there are no freebies, they are doing brisk business and you are just another customer for them, but they do have a good eco system ...Read More

Ajaz, Can you please share the other problems that you faced with the car, since you mentioned it’s loaded with issues. I’m aware of the Clutch Slave Cylinder recall, that was carried out on all pre sept 2009 cars. I think in your case the dealer didn’t do the job properly and then tried to blame it... on break fluid. Shantanu, Check this out on single reverse light, aparently this has become a norm in Europe and now same trend coming to indian shores. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modificatio ns-accessories/27156-single-reverse-light .htmlRead More

I think this is mentioned in the brochures, I was aware about the spare wheel, when I bought my Punto. Same story with the Honda city, Honda city don't come with alloys on the spare. Punto emotion pack is still value for money, even with a steel spare wheel. Figo diesel is the only car cheaper th...en Punto MJD but the Figo TDCI (titanium) comes with 14' steel rims and 175/65 R14 tires. Whereas Punto has widest tires in it's class 195/60/R15. The alloys and tires alone are worth 50K (without the spare).Read More

Boot space is ok. It's definitely more than vista, slightly more than I 20 and Skoda fabia. Turbo lag is not an issue, actually the torque is higher at lower RPMs in diesel so you can actually smoke the petrols initially when starting from a stop. You can expect the following differences in Punto.... 1. Higher torque at lower RPMs, so a good start from stop. 2. But petrols start to catch up once the speed increases, so once moving, need to keep the RPMs above 1700, to continue the punch, change gears swiftly ... All of this happens automatically as your driving style adjusts to the turbo diesel. Higher torque comes in handy while overtaking and also on inclines when you can overtake or go over without changing to a lower gear. First service cost me 80 bucks or so for the oil top ups. First three services are free btw. First at 3000 Km second at 15000 KM and third at 30000 KM.Read More

I think Punto is the better choice, it's a tough car, just compare the doors on both Ritz and Punto, In punto they close with a solid thunk, in ritz they feel flimsy. Punto Emotion + model comes with airbags and ABS. All cars with ABS and airbags are expensive. Xylo E8 with ABS (no airbags) is 8.6... ex-showroom. Unfortunately in India you have to pay through your nose for basic safety features, which have been made standard in other countries. Fiat after sales service has improved with Tata tie up, should not be an issue unless you are in a remote area.Read More

I had been planning to buy a car since some time. I started evaluating the available options about 6 months back, was looking for a CRDI diesel, since had heard so much about the frugality and torque. Options were Swift DDIS, Grande Punto MJD, i20 diesel, Vista QJT , Palio MJD, Getz crdi or a...Read more

I agree. The looks definitely are not earth shattering. The review could have been better though. I dont think that the author has even taken a test drive and the view is prejudiced.
