You have made a lot of invalid points. You said Bhagat singh did not attempt to kill anyone, but he did kill scott, and that is wat is analogous with the killing of the defence minister. What is wron \in potraying the defence minister as evil when there are live examples of such ppl in the ind...ian government. The boys even though made fun of Ajay Rathods philosophies and convictions when he was alive, respected him for it underneath. Ajay believed in the country despite its flaws and believed that he was making a difference for the country. When he died for the country he did not get his due from the country. This is what drove the boys for justice and they stood up for they believed in. I think the minor blemishes can be ignored for the greater message, that there are people in the country who believe in it and the cliched potrayal of politicians as evil is not so bad after all. Defence deals have always been shady and even if it has never caused a death of any pilots due to buying cheap bad spare parts, the moment any minister has taken money in a defence deal, he has sold his country. Mig parts being substandard if it is a confidential report should be made public. Dr. Shafique has made astupid point that all such issues about shady deals should not be shown in public which means that such deals should go on and nobody should know about it. When is film called long ? Long is a very relative term when it comes to movies.A movie seems long when you dont like what is being said in it, dont reate to it, or just expected something else from the movie. I guess most ppl expected something else fro the movie. So they found it long and preach...y. I dunno why ppl are saying that there is no entertainment value. The romance and comedy are blended into the movie at regular intervals and there is smashing music from time to time. Veer Zaara is also 'long' atleast I found it to be. I coudnt stand it after an hour or so. I guess its all about expectations. Ok, Do you think the movie will do better if it is re- edited and reduced in length by say half and hour. I dont think so. In a lot of theatres half an hour of the movie was cut and shown to no avail. People were still fining the movie long and preachy cos they just dont want to fully accept what it is trying to say. As Jack Lemmon said some movies are necessary and this is one of those movies. One thing I will accept is that Gowarikar should have evaluated the niche audience he is catering to in this movie and scaled down the budgt appropriately. This is something Indian film makers should learn from Hollywood. Here the award winning 'intelltual films ' are released on a smaller scale and are not in direct competition with the blockbusters. Their budget is low to medium even with big stars who do it only for accolades and awards and not for the money.
