A chance to see Amir in his first mainstream role may draw the crowd for the first few days but a taut storyline and perfect execution are the tenets that make a film viable. And in these respects, RDB fails miserably. A single viewing is sure to give you a splitting headache. The film is unable to 'match upto the expectation' of the public and is a big let down.

A subject like this has rarely been attempted on the Hindi screen. In RDB, the film begins in London and ends with a bloodbath in the FM radio station, where four good for nothing boys are bombared by cops! Sure, it requires guts to attempt a film on an offbeat theme like this. But how one wishes Rakesh wouldn't have bowed down in the climax and made a mishmash of whole film in the process.Oh! what a waste!!The problem with rang de basanti clearly lies in its scripting. Instead of concentrating on one track, rang de basanti unfolds multiple stories as it moves ahead. Resultantly, a few sub-plots impress, while the remaining ones stand out like sore thumbs. The Muslim track [Kunal Kapoor] ,air force track ,college track all are half baked and lifeless!

The film starts off well - the characters are well defined, the college setting gives the film an authentic feel, the goings-on move at a brisk pace - and the viewer is completely hooked on to an era that he may have heard about, but not witnessed. So far, so good!

So, where do things go haywire? In the second half! There is absolutely no logic in certain scenes and seems you need to capture radio station to prove that you are patriot. Perhaps this is the personal opinion of the director! The lathicharge portions take the film to a new high. But the momEnt it ends and the friends decide to kill the minister, the pace starts dropping alarmingly. To be honest, the entire killing episode appears forced in the narrative. Their motive of killing the motive doesn't come across too well.

Also, one fails to understand what actually prompts Siddu to kill his father. In fact, this is in sharp contrast to his character. Surely, he couldn't be such a dumb suddenly! The climax is even far more fetched ,where four useless jerks are surrounded by gun loading officer of ministry department! Give me a break!!!

Buddha Amir unfortunately doesn't quite fit into the character of college student and doesn't seem convincing enough. Siddharth has a very expressive face and has given a credible perfomance. Through his calm and dignified persona, he manages to convey his message. Then there is Sharman who with his typical 'Bombaiya' Hindi is absolutely charming!

Kunal Kapoor is a guy to watch out for! He is amazing as and delivers exactly as promised. He sure seems to have a bright future in Bollywood. As for Soha, though she has had a meaty role in the film, she is just about average.

Unfortunately, the director has taken it too easy with the script of the film. In fact, at many points, there seems to be utter chaos and none of the characters know what's happening!

Music is good. Some of the songs like 'pathsala and' rang de' is hummable. Nothing more.

There is nothing much that the film offers. Skip the film and preserve your sanity. At the box-office, the film will face rough weather after the hype settles!
