Dear Manas, You are quite right. The drivers of two-wheelers really do think they can get through the smallest of spaces and most drive quite rashly, without realising how much they are putting themselves and others at risk. Although Mumbai may have more disciplined traffic, than the majority... of places in India, there is still a lot lacking. Everyone is always in a tearing hurry, thinking that only they have the right of way, each wants to out-race the others. The concept of courtesy to other road-users, simply does not exist in India. It is always ME-FIRST ! Read More

Hi Harry ! Thanks, You are right again - Getting a Driver's License, is not exactly the right topic to be writing this under. I just did not know where to post my review. Many times we do not find the topics we are looking for, and although MS does have a comprehensive range and asks for suggestions..., when i want to write a review, i don't have the inclination to wait for them to process my request and create a new topic. I wish we could create our own topics.Read More

Thanks to all who read/commented - Yes, Neeraja, I agree - today's youth has become terribly rebellious, but the innocents should not be made to pay the price - our law enforcers are not so naive that they cannot see the difference between the decent children and the gone-cases. In answer to yr ques...tion So Blu, the children's parents were away at work, and they had gone with their trusted driver (with the family for 9 years) who without making any attempt to defend/protect them, deserted them, afraid that he would get beaten up too. What is perhaps more alarming is that the traffic constable on duty, who, even if he did not have time to intervene and settle the argument should have prevented any violence from taking place. How did he, a man in uniform with a sworn duty to protect, allow a 17-yr boy to be slapped around by a man trying to extort money from him, in full view of the public? That means that he was not even bothered that the boy's relatives might find his conduct wrong and complain against him, he was simply unconcerned. Why? The obvious reason is that all men in uniform are protected by their superiors (against civilians) they know that even if they do anything wrong, they can get away with it. Case in point - the horrifying and inhuman way in which the police have closed ranks and are protecting the policeman who pushed the young courier-cyclist at Khodaddad Circle a few days earlier, resulting in him being crushed to death under a BEST bus.(the driver did not brake or even slow down) Only because of the courage and sincerety of one motorist and the main eye-witness (God bless him!) and some passengers in the bus, the bus driver has been booked for man-slaughter. Horrifyingly, the policeman who actually pushed the boy to his death, has gone free. Such things happen openly in our country, therefore one loses faith in the very people who should be protecting us. Doctors were lathi-charged - the nation saw it - the Police Commissioner denies it !!!Read More

Hi! I can see how appropriate your Mouthshut ID is! Honestly, this is perhaps the most comprehensive review that encapsulates the reservation quotacracy! Brilliant! Why was emphasis never laid on education and health of all children in primary and secondary school levels? No politician expects to ...last 10 years, and if he passes laws and allocates funds to improving even primary schools, then the results will show only 10 years after the first batch passes their SSC exam. So, what will our politicians get out of it? Nothing! They just want to line their own pockets and effectively annihilate any hope that their nation may have of ever rising out of this cess pool of caste politics, pampering of minorities for self-gain only, and rampant corruption. As has been rightly pointed out, the people who actually deserve the reserved seats (if such a thing needs to exist at all!) the meritorious but ECONOMICALLY under-privileged will never get to within a mile of these institutions, let alone getting admitted into one. Alas, the most horrific effect of the reservation quota, will be the death of merit, justice, and even the ambitions and dreams of intellectual students. What are all those students in the General category going to go thru, who put their life on hold, who forget what family, home, good food, sleep is all about because they are too busy studying to get in on merit .....fighting to breathe and to stay afloat in this dark and murky sea, and even then...... being pushed right back into those dreary depths by the very politicians who vow to serve their nation? Ironic, isn't it ? I wonder if the UPA powers-that-be will sleep easier at night knowing that they destroyed even hope in our country.Read More

Hi Abhishek! Your review is fun-to-read, imaginative and well-written, while at the same time conveying the tragedy of this pathetic situation. I could actually envision your trendy son walking in and scoffing at your offer of a fake certificate. It is so ironic, is it not, that while our parents in...culcated (tried to anyway!) values in us, where integrity and hardwork count, yet our very system (the successive Indian governments with vested interests) works against every good thing taught to us. Today's mantras are corruption and greed. our politicians are ready to sell their soul and motherland if they see a pile of gold at the end of it! Perhaps Rang-De-Basanti has struck a chord in our sleeping consciences. BTW, happy to note that your son will be such a principled person : ) Keep up the good work and write more witty stuff!Read More

Your review is excellently written. I have read most of Daphne du Maurier's books except Rebecca, I have however seen the movie. You have re-created with your words the morbidly fascinating tale of Rebecca and her Manderley. Having lived in England for a few years, I do understand the British and r...espect the stiff-upper-lip syndrome of the upper class. The landed gentry among them, who came from old money, did indeed in those days have large estates and an army of servants, all of which they could well afford. For one thing. Max has been superlatively portrayed as the characteristic gentleman, who passionately loved his wife Rebecca and indulged her every whim, until he discovers how insatiable she is and the sadistic streak she has within her, until he finds out about all her affairs and her throwing those cruelly in his face. When we meet Max through the narrator's eyes, he is the wounded, betrayed and embittered lover, who has died piece by piece within. But being a true gentleman can never talk about it and must bear the pain. He is not one to bother with what people may be thinking. When his second wife comes into his life, he is taken aback by her innocence and sublime beauty. She thinks of herself as gauche and undesirable in his eyes, feeling the need to compete, with the ghost of Rebecca, not realising that it is her purity and sheer goodness that is the lifeline which saves Max de Winter from drowning in his own grief and cynicism. Rebecca is a sinister, yet heart-rending love story, that must be seen by all die-hard romantics.Read More

Your review encapsulates the essence of the film - a very poignant and profound story. Such things did happen in olden times. I do honestly believe that only people with finer sensibilities will appreciate this movie. It delves into the depths of human emotion and transcends them. It is the story of... a king and queen who worship and are content in, each other, and yet only because they are unable to produce an heir, are bound by the dictates of their senate to undergo this ancient sperm-donation concept. Only a sensitive director like Amol Palekar could have handled this delicate issue so brilliantly - the anguish, frustration and deep hurt of the king - his feeling of having failed his queen and his abject fear of losing her. Anant Nag is as dependable as always to deliver a power-house performance. While on the other hand, his queen, who worships her husband with every fibre in her being, finds it inconceivable that she should have to submit to another man, thus 'betraying' her husband, albeit against her will and with his consent. Sonali Bendre in this movie is grace and beauty personified - a true queen. Earlier I only thought of her as a glam doll but with this performance, she has proven that, in the hands of a good director, she can act and how! Anahat is indeed a visual and sensual delight. I wanted the movie to go on and on, and I wanted to know what happens the next day and then the next....Read More
