Very well written, Juggers. I am quite impressed. This is the first review I have read of yours, and I can't help but be impressed with this one. If your other reviews are as good as this one, then I better go check them out as well. Congratulations on your century. Grean

Didn't Jason Bourne start looking for his identity in the previous book? And he still hasn't figured it out? Man, this guy is the pits! What kinda hero is he? Hehe.. ok, seriously.. good review. I hardly get to watch any best-seller kinda movies these day, so haven't seen either of the Bourne mov...ies. Must catch them sometime... GreanRead More

Its all about expectations. Given all the hype that has been built around this movie over the years, and given your abortive attempts to watch it in the past, I doubt any movie, however excellent, could have met those expectations. The first viewing was bound to be disappointing. But like you said, ...the second time around you appreciate it more. By the way, they say third time is a charm. How about you, Sandra Dee, watch it with your Danny, the third time! Maybe that will bring out the fox hiding inside :-D When you think about why a movie became a cult movie, you have to think about the time when it first came out. Today, this movie may seem rather lame, but in 1978 when it first came out, it would have had a different impact on the then teenagers than it would now. Look at Star Wars for example - by today's standards, its a pretty lame movie. But still when it came out in 1975, it was one of its kind. Very well done, Rupasi. Happy Friendship Day to you too. Arun: No idea if it will come to India or not. But most certainly not the Boston Ballet version. About your son, wait till he gets a little older and develops an active interest in girls - then he won't miss a chance to go to the ballet! ;-) Sonal: Ab mein kya kahoon. I suppose I am just an all r...ounder. (Er, no, I don't know how to play guitar, I can't dance, I can't understand poetry, I can't... oh, never mind! Just minor deficiencies. Nothing that make me anything less than perfect! :-D )Read More

Sai bhai: When I first wrote this review, it was about twice as long. And I had ample things to say about the chinese babes in that. But MS doesn't quite like such long reviews, so I had to go snip-snip-chop-chop. And there went the chinese babes. Sigh. Am glad you liked the review. About going to C...hina, consider at as a potential honeymoon location! Sonal: Like I told Sai, the thesis was originally twice as long! Pics.. er.. ummm.. yes, I do owe you the pictures. BTW, didn't I send you the e-gifts that I got for you from there? Shilpy: Sometimes she read from the book. And sometimes, she didn't even do that - just made *us* read from the book! Suyog: It is a polluted city - that's why the smog. But once you get past it, it is also a beautiful city. Same advice as I gave Sai - consider it for your honeymoon. Or better yet, marry a chinese babe (is the chinki in your office a guy or a girl?) Incidently, if you depend only on being at the right place at the right time, then you might miss even other reviews. Its like using the safe-days method for contraception! :-DRead More

I can't quite figure out why you said you weren't too happy with this review. I found this to be pretty good - definitely a huge improvement over the NFAK one! :-) Its almost back to your usual standards. I quite agree with Rups about the opening section, though. It seemed a little awkward and stilt...ed. But then, the review got flowing... once you really started talking about the music, that is! Well done. I also agree with Rups (Rups, chsh ya twins?) about the interpretation of Tere Bina... Why did you think it means he's a grievance in her life? The line goes 'Tere bina...', not 'Tere siwa...' BTW, what in the blazes is a goose-egg. Yes, I know its the egg of a goose (don't be a smart-aleck). But is it a metaphor for something? Are you getting carried away by Gulzar's metaphors? How does one write poetry out of a goose egg? I have heard about thinking out of the box, but what is writing poetry out of goose eggs? Grean 'Bewildered' SleevesRead More

Jai: Thanks for your comments. You have a very interesting id. Ravi: There's Chinese food. And there's Indian Chinese food. And then, there's also American Chinese food. And I am sure other countries have their own flavor of Chinese food too! Given a choice, I would go for Indian chinese anyday. ...BTW, nobody in China knows who General Tso was! Thanks for your comments. Maglev ke liye Shanghai hi jaana padega, although I believe they are building one in Germany too now. Shilpy: Remember, we had the same Geography teacher? So, she must have taught us the same thing! At least, I hope so. :-) Anyway, Huang Ho or Huang He are both acceptable spellings. See, the real name is in Chinese, and we are only phonetically transliterating it into English. So both spellings are close enough to the real pronounciation. Thanks for commenting. Kalil: Yep, the company paid for it. But then I also worked my posterior off for them during the daytime all week. So.. :-) Oya: Next time I go to Shanghai, I will take you along.. just for the Maglev! Rupu: For that weekend, I have exactly one place already planned. No, I can't tell you here in public...shh!! Log kya kahenge.. Haww (borrowing from Oya's lingo!) Mehul: China always gives a stiff competition in the olympics. They produce some excellent athletes. Thanks for commenting. Rhea: Shall I remind you where all do you waste your freaking time? And you have a problem with spending a fraction of second that it takes to click? Which you would clicked anyways to leave a comment. You just wait till I get my hands on you!Read More

Sorry about the 'less than perfect' rating. But somehow, this one didn't live up to the same level as your other reviews. The words don't flow very smoothly. Perhaps you should re-read it as a neutral outsider and see what do you think about it yourself. My apologies if this unflattering comme...nt didn't go down very well. But I believe in honest criticism over blind praises. Gosh, I need to lighten up! :-) GreanRead More

I made it here too, but behind Sai. That young stud is always ahead of this buddha ghoda! Pubs, discos, bars, etc have never been part of my social life (I know, I am boring), but it was interesting to read about them. If my social life takes a new turn, I will be sure to check out TC in Delhi. ... Looks like my trip to Delhi is all planned out already - take you to LPN market, take you to TC.. aur kya? Now, I just have to get there before Sai. %^&*(#& Neat review, again, Rupmati. Good going.. GreanRead More

Sach boloon to, Sai.. I think you have already guessed that I am less than ecstatic about this review. Shayad isi liye itna time laga hai comment karne mein, even though I read it the first day itself... have been wondering what exactly to say... since, to be very honest, this review left me kinda c...onfused. I agree with Rups that what makes your reviews special are your insights. And that holds for this review as well. Lekin, kahin, kuchh.. theek nahi hai. Something about the flow of words in here.. Somehow, they didn't have the same coherence as your other reviews... Kabhi chat pe we can sit and analyze the rev in detail, if you'd like. Have I been too critical here? Well.. you insisted on knowing my opinion.. so you get what you ask for! :P I have been brutally honest here, with no sugar coating or anything... Now, don't you wish you had never insisted on me leaving a comment? :-D Sorry, man, for being so nitpicky! But like I told Shilpy, what 'one' produces is not always measured against what others produce, but against what expectations that people have built from that 'one'! Needless to say, the expectations I have from you are pretty pretty high! (Er, that was meant to be a compliment, btw) GreanRead More

Commented on Senorita's review

Senorita... good review. Of course, there are many other promising bright stars that I will be watching (listening to?) closely, such as Anuradha Sriram, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Sukhwinder Singh, etc. I think Bollywood music is in good hands when it comes to singers... its the music directors that make me c...ringe! Was interesting to see Vasundhara Das on your list - didn't know anybody else had noticed her too. She's very good. And of course, I have a personal reason for liking Sonu ;-) Although I think most of his non-Rahman songs suck! But to me, that's the fault of the music composer - when it comes to singing abilities, he is one of the best. About your review, well.. I am a bit confused... I thought this was a review on the album called 'Great Songs - Great Singers'? Nahi? Ignoring that fact though, well written review. Nicely thought out and explained, with good supporting explanations for your choices. Bas, thoda as formatting aur grammar pe dhyan de do, to it would be just about perfect. Kya khayal hai? Shilpy.. I was just thinking I am usually too critical of your reviews. For some reason, I hold your reviews to higher standards than most others. I know that ain't fair. Will try to lighten up a bit. However, try as I might, I couldn't find anything wrong with this one! Had me laughing my head o...ff at your thoughts. Full marks for.. well, for everything.. style, choices, analysis, dialogs, humor. Hmm.. you missed out emotions, tragedy, love.. oh wait, I was thinking of a Bollywood movie.. Never mind me.. I am just feeling a little goofy (so, what's new?) BTW, that Rajkumar movie with Priya Rajvansh is called Hindustan Ki Kasam. Grean PS: I am finally all caught up with your reviews. Phew!Read More
