While most people complain about Microsoft's forced updates, a California woman decided to sue the company. And she won.
As per The Seattle Times report, Teri Goldstein, a businesswoman from California, sued Microsoft for installing Windows 10 on her computer without her permission. Following the update, her computer "slowed to a crawl. It would crash and be unusable for days at a time," she said.
"I had never heard of Windows 10. Nobody ever asked me if I wanted to update," Goldstein added.
When customer support at Microsoft failed to resolve the issue, Teri moved court. She sought compensation of$10,000 for loss of wages and cost of a new computer.
According to the report, Microsoft dropped the appeal "to avoid the expense of further litigation" and compensated Goldstein with$10,000.
Microsoft in its defense said that the choice to update is on the user and not a requisite.
Users also have the option to roll back to previous version of Windows within 31 days of installation if they are not happy with Windows 10.
