The entire nation went into frenzy when reliance announced free calling and data services in the form of a welcome offer during the launch of their 4g services a few months ago. Incumbents like Airtel, Vodafone and idea saw a steep decline in their businesses and there were also some disagreements among them where TRAI(Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) had to intervene.
Recently it was reported that Reliance was the fastest mobile operator to rake in 50 million customers.
Today, Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced a happy new year offer for the customers, extending the welcome offer to 31st March 2017 . The offer has been officially named Happy new year offer. However, the Reliance Jio happy new year plan will come with a fair using policy wherein each customer will get a data cap of 1 GB per day
Mr. Ambani also expressed his gratitude towards Indian in helping them become the fastest growing technology company, surpassing behemoths like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Skype. He also went on to add that a JIO user is using 25 times more data than the average user today. However, he took a dig at the incumbents by expressing his displeasure for the lack of assistance in reducing the call drops
Addressing the nation in his live stream, he said reliance will be supporting prime minister Narendra Modi's demonetization scheme by launching the JIO App on December 5
Reliance growth as a mobile operator has truly been phenomenal over the last few days and this might make the incumbents make more strategic changes. The competition in the mobile operator market is surely going to get stiffer.
