One of the biggest gainers of the demonetization move has undoubtedly been Paytm which has seen unprecedented growth after the announcement of the move.
In a bid to make more out of the opportunity, Paytm has come up with an idea for users having an iffy internet connection. Paytm has launched a toll-free number - 1800 1800 1234 to enable digital transaction without an internet connection.
To avail this service you will first have to call it from your registered mobile number in order to set you PIN. On calling the number, you will be informed that Paytm will call you back to set up a PIN for you.
One you have the PIN, it can be used to make payments by calling the toll-free number, entering the phone number of the recipient followed by the transfer amount and the PIN to complete the transaction.
However, to use this toll-free number it is mandatory that you have a Paytm account which is linked to your mobile number for the obvious reason of pre-loading money in your Paytm wallet.
There are reports that attempts to set up the PIN were unsuccessful when the toll-free number was called, but that might be due to the initial rush for sign ups.
Paytm would be rectifying the issues and hopefully, the process will be a smoother ride for the customers fast forward a few days.
