A very remote village of India was adopted by World Bank as a model village for overall growth and improvement of standard of living. A lot of fund was pumped in and a group of expert in various field started working in the village. A lot of schemes were started and a massive awareness programme was launched. After one year , the project director , an American, took a review meeting. He was not at all satisfied with the progress made and in some areas such as self employment etc. there was absolutely no progress. The project was very agitated and decided to oversee the things by his own eyes.
Next day The project director was travelling in a jeep for surveying the village. He saw one Youngman was resting under a huge mango tree and his two buffalos were grazing nearby. He was singing a hit Hindi movie song with his eyes closed. The director asked his driver to stop and came down from the jeep. He went to the Youngman and following conversation took place.
Director: Good Morning
Youngman: Good Morning Sir. You are a big officer, why you have come to me?
D: What are you doing here?
Y: I am resting and trying to take a nap while my buffaloes are grazing.
D: Have you not heard about starting of new classes in village where various ways self employment are being taught ?
Y: Is it ?Then?
D: You should have attended that class , that would have help you a greatway.
Y: How?
D: You might have learnt some trade and might start your own business in a smaller scale.
Y: Then?
D: From that your business can grow up if you labour hard
Y: Then?
D: You can earn some money and can improve your standard of living.
Y:Then?
D: You can reinvest the money in a bigger business and earn more.
Y Then?
D: You can own a factory or a farm house or chain of shops. You will become rich , very rich. You don’t have to toil hard in the scorching sun, you will have a comfortable life.
Y: Then?
D: ( a bit angrily) You can sleep peacefully.
Y: That is exactly what I am doing.
