The War Within : That Needs To Be Won

Dear friends few years back I had written some beautiful lines on war. Let me share with you all. Like to know your suggestions & valuable comments.

Probably, no nation is rich enough to pay for both war and civilization. We must make our choice; we cannot have both. (Abraham Flexner)

A very old saying that he who masters self is greater than he who conquers thousands in battle. War is never a solution, it is an aggravation. I wish War should be made a crime, and those who instigate it should be punished as criminals.

A great war leaves a country with three armies: an army of cripples, an army of mourners, and an army of thieves. War is never a solution; it is an aggravation. (Benjamin Disraeli)

All forms of violence, especially war, are totally unacceptable as means to settle disputes between and among nations, groups and persons.( Dalai Lama )

Together we must learn how to compose difference, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Wisdom is better than weapons of war.

THE WAR WITHIN.....

Today, it seems, the war will be over, after a long painstaking wait,

The leftovers of battle will be wrapped in flags & sent back straight;

To be given as trophies to their families for ensuring a national contribution,

victory would be sounded on one side & the loser will await his future retribution;

Each warring side will declare their heroes & martyrs with a royal gun -salute;

Young, meek, sick & old would all soon rake in their ceremonial tribute;

Yes! A nation may win, but humanity has surely lost the plot,

A belief on both sides ran strong & that's why they had fought;

A game of politics & power was being played as guiltless lives were lost,

If this was the price paid for innocence, was it worth this martial cost?

Whose guilt is this plot of death at the end of all jubilations & commiserations?

Is it our own or a conspiracy of selfish interests & dominating contemplations?

We understand simple things in complex ways to make wars out of petty differences,

We will kill our kind in numbers during this war & hide our foolish pretences,

We name those that we kill as the 'enemy' of our peace & the 'outsider' of our life,

We will sacrifice our own kin, to dance later on their military effort & defence strife,

The resulting wounds of the survivors of war may heal with the passage of dates,

But, how would one rejuvenate spirits of those that have sent many to heaven's gates?

It's known wisely by now, that violence begets violence & war begets war,

A contagious disease of differences, hatred & dominance that spreads wide & far;

Why then do we only blame it on terrorism, dictatorship, oppression or just a few men?

A war is the result of minds that have chosen violence to solve problems every now & then;

Defence & security are labels pasted on this fallout of a mind that has chosen to retire,

Escapism runs rampant in the mouth, as the guilt of having killed consumes the mind entire;

No! The time has now indeed come to rid the world of this violent evil that annihilates,

An answer has to be found before sides choose war & the sound of death reverberates;

Have YOU looked inside yourself ? I ask, strangely, at this juncture of seeking the solution,

The mind within has lent fuel to many wars that only started as differences in opinion;

I say, open our mind to embrace differences, lend support to the weak & respect others,

Let us be united in thought & action, the wisdom of war suggests only peace & no bothers;

All this hatred & distrust must end, if we are to live in a state of everlasting solace,

It's the WAR WITHIN that needs to be won & I say this with a hopeful grimace!

I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends. (Abraham Lincoln)
