Living Statue

Today’s young generation give much importance to money & they think that more money gives them joy, happiness & lack of money gives pain and problems. That is why they believe that with more money they can have a better life.

Sometimes I ask questions to myself, do we need money at all? What makes good people do bad things? Can a moneyless society work?

The mere smell of money can make people behave unethically. We all know the money power and the money mindset in today’s generation has done a big damage to this earth and humanity. Sometimes I imagine if we took money out of the equation and really started to share the resources & build a place that works for everyone, then there would be no more banks, financial crisis’s, corruption, unemployment, crime, poor, hunger, homeless and the list goes on. I personally believe that money and the logic of money is the major force behind all of this. I am not against making money ethically, but I am against running after money madly.

From past few months I have been professionally involved in organizing many corporate events. One of my clients called me & requested to arrange a special musical event & decorations for the wedding ceremony. I was very busy & I called my friend who is running a big event management company to come out with innovative ideas. I was very sure that his event management company is very dynamic and a professional Company that is always prepared to go for the extra mile.

My friend invited me to see how the arrangements were made for the wedding ceremony. As I entered the wedding hall, I was surprised to see a beautiful girl standing like a statue at the entrance & two men were helping her to stand on top of a table with a small fountain & one of the person was giving her tips to relax & asking her to control breathing, shifting position gradually & so on.

My friend welcomed me & asked about the innovative ideas & arrangements. I was really surprised & asked my friend, she is a girl or a girl statue. He immediately replied, she is a living statue.

I kept silent for few minutes & said, people make statues but you have made a poor girl to look like a statue. I hope you have seen RBI’s newly launched website explaining ways to detect fake currency with a tagline'Pehchano Paise Ki Boli, Kyunki Paisa Bolta Hai', but is there any machine invented to measure the emotions of human beings?

My friend said, Brother kindly let’s sell our innovative ideas not our emotions. That girl is a paid statue & she is agreed to stand for six hours. In many countries this is a well paid profession & one can hire living statues for business events, festivals & weddings etc.

I know it’s a well paid job. This poor girl stands for few hours & of course she is paid for it, but it’s very unfortunate that there are so many women in our country who are living like living statues all their life. Their emotions die within them. Their hard works & sacrifices go unnoticed. They are neither rewarded nor awarded. It’s a harsh reality that is difficult to digest. Let’s not worry about things we have no control over, especially things from our past. We can’t go back and change it, all we can do is we can only learn from it. Let’s love, respect & appreciate women for their hard work & selfless sacrifices.

We are not on this earth to just stand still & look pretty. The museums already have enough statues.(Mandy Hale)

A picture is worth a thousand words. This picture of Living Statue was taken at the wedding reception.
