THANK YOU MEN, FOR MAKING OUR LIVES COMFORTABLE!!

By: cerebral_attack | Posted Oct 27, 2009 | General | 971 Views

Sitting in CCD and listening to Don William’s Crying eyes, I write this. No,no,no.. this isn’t supposed to be sentimental. Not even close. This is not even meant to be humorous. Just wanted to thank men for making our lives comfortable.

I have come a long way ( not the journey to CCD, but the walk of life.. I meant), crossed 30 milestones. So I have kind of seen the era of Black and White which made way for Eastman colour which changed to digitalized everything. Change. That’s the only constant thing in the world, somebody obviously genius had written. Of course, change is there. 1980s welcomed this very first tv at home, a small B&W “testla”, which gave way to a slightly bigger but thankfully coloured “Onida” in 1990s. Come 2000s and now we see a big thin “Sony Bravio” stuck on to the wall. The Chitrahaar, Krishi darshan and Rangoli have all long gone. Telephone back then used to be the pride of the family, proudly kept for display covered with the milky white netted cloth and dusted everyday, the long coils of it which I had to desperately stretch it in order to get a bit of privacy made way for the cordless phones.. a boon for lovers who talked secretly, atleast one could go as far as the balcony away from the prying ears and eyes and talk at ease. The era of mobile changed everything, now you don’t even have to raise your hand to hold it, a Bluetooth headset allows you to multitask freely without having to tilt your neck to one side. So life has been comfortable. The change has made our lives at ease.

So has men. The once head-of-the-family now has spread his wings and has taken over the neck, shoulder, hands and rest of the body too. They are no longer just the bread earner of the family. Long gone are the days when they used to go to office with this khaane ka dabba ,come back in the evening dead tired, have meal, watch tv, and then sleep off. The roles that they now play is enormous. Seeing my friends, colleagues has really been an eye opener to me. The present era has given us men who not only wears fashionable clothes, but looks after the house, pays the bills, cooks, washes clothes, enjoys shopping, hits the gym, doesn’t shy away from buying vegetables or household items, takes their kid out for a walk in the park, goes to exotic places for vacation, reads, writes, twitters and at the end of the day satisfies us too..Phew!! So its like getting the whole package at a garage sale. (kidding!!).

I,personally, am in complete awe of men. The new-age man, in fact. The man who takes the old worn out, netted sabji ka jhola and goes out to buy vegetables with equal vigor as when he goes for his monthly body massage. The man who takes his kid out for a once-weekly stroll in the park or the beach and comes back and makes this powerpoint presentation for the coming conference. The man who makes -plans ( of a vacation to this exotic locale) and makes breakfast with equal enthusiasm. The kind of man who has multiple roles to play in our lives.

Thank you guys for making our lives easier.

A few days ago, I was stuck in the middle of a jam and that’s when I saw this group of women shouting slogans against men, obviously something like./ “Naari Bachao Aandolan”. Everywhere women have been fighting for justice, demanding equality, amending rules which are pro-women. Etc etc. This is the decade for women. A lot of rules and regulations are up to save the girl child, to nurture girls education, to prevent dowry deaths. So its always women this, women that .. and its nice in a way for us. We do have separate seats in parliament, bus, metros, train coach, we have separate queues in banks, railway counters, etc. But in this era belonging to women, are we forgetting men? With so many amendments done in our favour, I have seen so many women obviously mis-using these pro-women rules. False applications of the regulations, false accusations have been done and women have got away from it too, ill-treated men obviously have so less places to go for help. Do we now need a “Aadmi baachao aandolan?”

(The last paragraph was a bit un-intentional. I wasn’t meant to write it under this title.. but then I couldn’t help myself.)
