This is the true story of my elder brother who has gone through so many ups and downs in life.

My Brother, Manoj, Was an above average student and had a good IQ. Till 10th standard, everything was ok. He started taking more interest in cricket during those two critical years of 10+2. He did not pay much attention to studies resulting in a 2nd division in 12th std. and not being able to clear any of the engineering entrance exams. Everyone felt bad as he had the potential to clear even IIT. He was pretty upset for a few days. On day he received a letter from a polytechnic institute saying he cleared the exam and could take admission in a remote place called Sioni in M.P. ( my brother was not even interested in giving the entrance as the institute offered only diploma)

Having no option in front of him, he decided to take admission. We all could see the disappointment on his face as all his friends had cleared entrance of prestigious engineering colleges. He somehow managed to shift to Jabalpur polytechnic. He cleared his diploma in electronics with honors. Knowing most of his friends would be placed in big corporates, he kept his cool and patiently studied for M.P.E.B. ( Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board) Jr. Engineer recruitment exams.

He cleared the exam and became a Jr. Engineer with MPEB in Korba ( now in chhatisgard ). In 2 years time he managed to clear A.M.I.E. with honors ( a degree in engineering ). Ultimately he became an engineering graduate.

He appeared for the biggest engineering test of India ( IES ) parallel to IAS.

He cleared the exam in first attempt.

He was elated. We all were on cloud 9 as this was one of the toughest exams to crack.

Everything looked bright. He chose Naval Armament services and went to Vishakahpattanam on first posting.

And the unexpected happened. He observed discrimination in armament services as officers from non defense background were not being treated with due respect.

He decided to quit as he was not willing to compromise.

He was back to Jr. Engineer from a gazetted class 1 officer post.

This time he realized that promotions were tough with engineering base in MPEB.

He decided to switch to finance. He cleared a tough inter departmental exam for people who wanted to move to finance from engineering ( promotions were easier in finance as compared to engineering )

He underwent a training for a period of 6 months and became an Accounts Officer with MPEB, Jabalpur. Became Sr. AO in 2 years, Asst Director - Finance in 4 years and has been serving as Dy. Director- Finance for last 4 years. His next promotion too is due.

During these 10 years, he cleared hisL.L.B. and an MBA too.

What a journey!

In the journey called life, there are ups and there are downs. Like those low and high tides. Both are important. You realize the importance of good when you encounter bad. Some one mentioned once“ Jab andhera bahut Ghana ho, samjho savera nazdeek hai”.

And this is what gives me the strength to go on even if things don’t look bright.
