11th-July-2006 - The Unforgettable Day

With so many incidents happening at regular intervals, our memory tends to fade about those that took place a couple of years ago, as we are so much engrossed in the present day's issue. Even though the day is unforgettable for me but I still have to take assistance of Google to know the exact date when it actually happened.

It was 11th-July-2006 when I reached home early from office. It was around 6.30 PM in Bahrain & 9 PM in India due to the time difference between the two countries. The time was perfect for me to catch the 9 O'clock's news, which rarely happened due to the hectic work schedule.

The headlines that reads 'serial bomb blasts in Mumbai local trains' shocked me. Moreover the time at which the blasts took place was of concerned because most of the people return home from their work during those hours & both my younger brothers use to leave their offices around same time.

I called my my wife, who was petrified to hear the news. We both from our cell phones started calling my brothers but the network was jammed & we could not get them. We called out home place & the scene at home was not good, my father said that he was unable top control my mother & sister because they were crying as they too could not contact my brothers. On hearing this my wife & daughter started crying endlessly.

At Bahrain I continued trying my brothers numbers, while I tried to control my wife & daughter. And at Jamshedpur, my father continued trying to contact his two younger sons, while controlling his wife & daughter.

Around 8.30 PM Bahrain time, we got succeeded to contact one of my brother, he was okay but sounded very scared. I told him not to worry but what he told me was enough to scare me to death. He was in the same train in which the bomb blast took place at Borivali station. He told us that the youngest brother was also safe as he did not leave his office due to some extra work. The good news was immediately conveyed to our parents.

He along with hundreds of people walked from Borivali to Vasai, where we live, which is around 25 km. We were constantly in touch with till he reached home. He did not go to office for many days as he was scared to travel.

By the time we finished all this, it was 11 PM, with no food cooked. Thanks to Bahrain where the restaurants are opened till midnight, we went out for dinner but could hardly eat anything. The blasts shook us but we were happy that our relatives were safe but what about others who have lost theirs.
