Who doesn't love holidays? Specially Summer Holidays, after all it gives everyone an opportunity to take a break from their regular daily routine. Plans holidays, meet relatives, visit places that once we have dreamed of, etc.
Summer Holidays for me till early teens of my life
Come summer & it brings the double dose of pleasure. First, long holidays in school & second an opportunity to meet & stay with cousins at least for two weeks. Sometimes they visit us & sometimes we visit them but the fun for two weeks used to be the best we could have had. No school, so no tension of homework or studies, which gave us an extra advantage to stay awake till late at night & sleep till we want in the morning. We almost forget the roasting heat outside the house.
Summer Holidays during my college days
I completed my college in Hyderabad & Bombay. Summer holidays this time had a different meaning for me as it gave me the chance to meet my parents for almost 6 weeks & in between these six weeks I use to visit my relatives for few hours. Cousins have grown up & were busy with their careers. Some were back in the city to spend their summer vacations & would prefer to spend maximum time with their parents. I don't blame them.
Summer Holidays while I was abroad
From last week of June till 1st week of September my daughter's school would close every year for summer holidays. And its really hot in Gulf during summer. Keep a piece of marinated meat outside in the sun & after few hours you can eat the well done steak, I hope this would give you some indications of the heat. Since almost everyone goes for vacation during summer, we had to book the ticket in February so that we can get the tickets for the date that we want. We always planned vacation from mid of July till mid of August, which was monsoon period in India. Meeting parents, getting rid of burning heat, getting drenched in rain, so it really use to be wonderful holidays for us.
Summer Holidays present day
Once again I checked the school diary of my daughter in the month of March, so that I can book our tickets. Then the wait for the departure day was like having some extra hours everyday, as the time wouldn't pass in the last 10 days. Finally, we reached our hometown Jamshedpur yesterday to spend our summer holidays.
I was just relaxing last night when a thought hit me that I have completed 40 years of my life but still the summer holidays has the same zeal for me. Looks like I never want to grow as long as the summer season keeps coming every year.
