Debate # 18 - Yuvraj, A Scapegoat?

By: ajeet15 | Posted Apr 07, 2014 | Debates / Opinions | 832 Views | (Updated Apr 14, 2014 01:21 PM)

Well, we all know what happened yesterday in the finals of T20 World Cup, where Indian cricket team was completely outplayed by the Sri Lankan team. Since it has become a trend to find a scapegoat who should be blamed for the defeat, we have found one in Yuvraj Singh this time. But is he really to be blamed?

Sri Lanka and India both are good players of spin and both have a very strong batting line up. Sri Lankan team who won the Asia Cup few weeks back in Bangladesh continued to put up a good show where the senior Kumar Sangakara played like a senior player and won the game for his country in the last match of his T20 career.

India lost the game when they were asked to bat first, which further increased the confidence of the opponents when India failed to score in the first six overs. The last five overs that Sri Lanka bowled were the best see in the recent past. Perfect yorkers way outside the off stump made life difficult for India batsmen to score. even Dhoni struggled in the seven balls that he faced.

Even though Sri Lanka lost some wickets but the experience of Kumar Sangakara ensured that his team wins the tournament.

I would say that we were completely outplayed by Sri Lankans. No batsman except Virat Kohli showed the hunger for the win. The way Dhoni made some balling changes are also questionable. Of course, Yuvraj struggled badly to score but we have to congratulate the Sri Lankan bowlers who read Indian batsmen so well and played to a plan.

What do you think is the reason for our defeat?
