Macro: If you enjoy clicking small objects like insects and flowers, or even small items, you will need Macro lens. The best 3rd party Macro for insects and buterflies is Sigma 150mm f/2.8, which has good telephoto range to keep distance from insects to click without disturbing them, and it cost aro...und 35K. But if you click non-moving objects or slow moving insects, then Sigma 70mm f/2.8 lens is the best lens in the market, even better than the Nikon/Canon. Tamron 90mm f/2.8 is also a good option, with performance very close to Sigma 70mm, only inferior at f/2.8. These will cost around Rs. 17-20K. By the way, these lenses are the sharpest among all the lenses. These are the most common lenses you will need. I am not talking about other excellent expensive prime lenses, as once you grow out of these lenses, you will know what you want, and will not need this review to decide. Here are some tips to keep your lens in good condition for long time. Always use a UV filter on the lens so that dust does not deposit on the lens. Use a blower to remove dust, and clean the lens using soft cloth made for lens cleaning or else other cloths may scratch the lens. Keep the lens along with silica gel to absorb moisture to prevent fungus. Take care and keep clicking great pictures.Read More

Good review. Aamir is a great businessman. He makes movies cheap (with cheap artists - Taare Zamin Par, Peepli Live), and then sells it expensive, with expensive movie tickets... as if the tickets are not already expensive. I'll watch it next week, when the price of the tickets comes down.

Hi Varun, Professional camera’s are normally of metal body with whether sealing to protect against humidity, dust and high/low temperature., important for professionals using the camera in difficult conditions. The sensor is full frame to give best picture quality, but at 4-10 times the cost of th...e Dx format camera’s. This quality may be important for the professionals, but I personally don’t feel the price justifies the small incremental quality provided for our home use. The professional camera’s also have many more buttons to change the functions quickly, important for the professionals not to waste time going into menu. They have more customization options to suite photographers liking. The speed of operation, including frames per second, focusing speed, power on speed is high so that professionals don’t miss the moment. Also the memory is on Compact flash for faster read/write, and in duplicate. They also the additional click button for vertical shots. It may also have virtual horizontal level indicator, many more focus points, larger number of exposure bracketing etc. Of-course, we may also like to have all these, but at what cost? We will not pay 3-5 Lakhs if we are not earning from photography. And what we get for Rs. 30K is good enough for most of us with respect to the quality of the pictures offered (which is not very far behind), and speed/functionality offered. Also, plastic body makes it light and easy to carry for us. So may be for us, these cheaper camera’s are as good as the professional camera’s if we don’t need the features offered by them, and we save money for our family. AnilRead More

Hi Sharad, I have been following the camera sensor development for last few years, and have seen that D90 is still at the top of Dx cameras, though others have also caught up and offer excellent quality. Which ever camera you buy from the ones you listed, you will not be able to differentiate the im...age quality. The benefit D300s and 50D (7D will be better) have is the whether proof solid body. And D300s has 51 focus points. 550D is more plastic, but is lighter and has better viideo. D5000 is similar to D90, more plastic, but flap-out LCD, useful in many photographic situations. D90 is balanced in the middle with good body and image quality. So you have to decide what is important for you. The full-frame is definetly better, best being D3s. I hope the same sensor will be seen soon in D700s (?). Else I would prefer 5DMk-2, being more modern. You are right, it may be time for D90 upgrade, which may happen by end of this year. But D90 is already so wonderful, I don't know what more can be added, except may be 1080p HD Video.Read More

Welcome to the D90 club. It is a fantastic camera, and you will be very happy using it for long time to come. It is very well built with impressive quality feel, which you only get in high end camera's. About the two buttons you are mensioning, the lower one is for the Deptho-of-field preview, and I... am not sure if you can use it for other customized functions.Read More

Depends what you are looking for. If the picture quality is your concern, Canon 550D or Nikon D5000 are simar to any other high end cameras at lower price. If bulid quality is your concern, then Canon 7D, Nikon D300s and Canon 50D are more solid built. Nikon D90 is in the middle in terms of buld qua...lity. You will be happy with the image quality of any of these.Read More

Nice review. Has tempted me to go for it. Good to know Chang has done a great job, as I was looking forward to his role. He is a doctor, a good singer, and has been hosting some shows with ease. And now an actor. He is a great talent. Will surely go for it for Chang, once I am back in India next wee...k.Read More

Good information about the auther. However, I value the knowledge, not the degree... else Ambani did not have an MBA to know business, Sunil Mittal is not a Telecom engineer, Ford was not a automobile engineer, Bill gates did not even complete his studies.. etc. and we have great so many people who ...have changed the world by their knowledge, not through degrees. Degrees only make great workers or slaves...Read More

Hi Chandrashekar, thanks for your comments. I know that D60 is a nice camera, and also that you can not match the quality of pictures with high ISO with that of with flash. The DSLRs only make possible pictures that were not possible before without flash. If you have already invested in flash, inves...t little more on diffuser, and find out if your flash can be triggered remotely by camera. This will help you keep the flash away fom the camera so that no shadows are formed, and diffuser will reduce harshness. About the D90 price, well, every few months, you get the same quality in lower priced camera. The D5000 has same image quality as D90, and is cheaper.Read More

Hmmm Well said... Competition, not Comparison... and there is very thin line to distinguish it. And best thing is to compete with yourself, and keep on improving yourself as a person, and your abilities. No point is competing with anyone else, as no one can be YOU and YOU can not be someone else, an...d even if you try, you will fail... Sad to hear about your cousin.Read More

Right You are right. Kids need support from their parents, and assurance that they are important and loved, irrespective of if they fail or pass in life. My story is also similar to yours. Me and my friend got 2nd division in higher secondary (due to change in school/place etc.), and our life seemed... to be doomed. My friend got a good beating at home, but my father supported me and said, don't mind, we'll work together. Although no tuition class gave me admission to Engineering classes, my father gave me all the time, and I passed the entrance exam in first attempt and got admitted to the Electronics Engineering. My friend who was beaten up and asked to only study all the time and was not allowed to go out to play, failed, as he had lost confidence in himself. This is a point here, that we are humans, and we sometimes do loose confidence in ourselves, but if someone else shows confidence in us, specially our parents, we ourselves start to believe in ourselves, and succeed in life. But if our parents itself loose confidence us, that is end of our world, which result in suicides. So we should not give up on anyone, and specially someone who has not done well, as they are the ones who need our support the most.Read More

Go for D5000 if you can afford it as it gives much more value for money, else D3000 is a good camera. Also look at Canon 1000D at the same price point,as it has better sensor and live view, but D3000 is a overall a good feature-packed and modern camera.
